KT-110 Build Log - new title
#1
After hours of flight on my Eachine 1104, 6000kv motors...one finally died.  I have two quads that these motors float and while they are sort of noisy, they seem really solid.

The front starboard motor failed in flight and KT110 went earthbound in a hurry.  Thankful I was over a grassy part of my yard so no other damage.  There is another set on its way, so I am down to Lizzy for a bit while the new ones paddle to our distant shore.

Also, have shifted to flying in AIR/ACRO 100%,  Was strange at first as it showed some bad habits I have formed since early on, but after a few packs it started to come together well!

I am also amazed at how differently KT and Lizzy fly with almost identical PIDS and setup.  Lizzy is almost obnoxiously quick and KT feels smooth and loopy like a glider.  It sort of makes me want to slow the Lizard down some with maybe lower rates.

Just ordered a set of the Eachine 1104's so I have replacements for the Lizard again. I have 2 now left as spares. I also bought another set of Dragonfly motors so KT will have a little more uumph!

If you want lots more oomph, have a look at the new Sunnysky 1106 motors.

http://www.rcsunnysky.com/index.php?s=/a...lang=en-us

If you pair the 5500kv version with a 3020 prop and feed it 3S power, it develops a maximum thrust of just over 350g. That's just bonkers! By comparison, the DYS BE1104 5400kv with the same propeller develops just 170g.

So for two millimetres more in stator height (and, no doubt stronger magnets, a smaller air gap and thinner stator laminations), you get more than twice the power! They only weigh 7.5g as well.

Thanx for the heads up UnSeen! I am limited to 2" props on the 110mm frame, but that still leaves me a lot of prop battery combos to find max power. I am definitely enjoying just cruising around dialing in my abilities in ACRO.

The 8000kv version with 2035x4 props gets close on the same power with 3S.

It pulls 22.5A at full throttle in the static thrust test though, which is probably more like 15A in the real world but still - asking a tiny little battery for 60A will probably turn it into a football fairly quickly! Big Grin

LOL, Unseen, my ESC board is rated to 28 amps...so this would work!  I would punch once and never see the drone again, but it would be a beautiful rush to the heavens!!!  Smile

For right now, I am actually appreciating having the lower powered motors as I feel my way through acro mode flying.  This is the first time I have really spent any time in any unassisted modes.  After flying about 30 packs with acro only, I attempted to use ANGLE and promptly crashed.  I think I am now stuck on ACRO with AIR enabled.  Add in too much power and I feel I would be overwhelmed at my present skill level.

That is really great to hear!

Jaw dropping speed and acceleration is lots of fun and sometimes is the only thing that will get you out of trouble, but the reverse is also true and being able to go faster than your skills can cope with has surely lost people many a quad.

I would cry if I lost KT!  She is one of a kind and 100% my own build Smile

She is now equipped with the Dragonfly MC1105 7500Kv motors and OH MY!  Way different than the 1104 6000Kv motors that have been on her since the initial build.  While the Eachine motors were on hand and worked after ruining the first set of Dragonfly's (long screws and coils...do not mix!), they are not in the same class as these!  Cannot wait to get out into some open space for some fast flying.

I do understand that having a surplus of power is really an insurance policy.  It take less than a few feet to arrest a stalled fall from 30 meters.  Amazing!  :Big Grin

This build:

Eachine Firer 110 frame
HGLRC F428/TX20 stack
RunCam Swift Micro 2 camera
Dragonfly MC1105 7500kv motors
GemFan 2035 props
FrSky XM+ receiver

I am flying cheap 550mah 3S packs while messing around in the yard and Tattu 650mah 3S in the waiting for when I have bigger spaces to stretch out in!

Very nice!

Good to see that you've found HGLRC. They're a quirky company but they make good stuff and it has always been reliable in my experience.

I have been impressed with the stack so far! It is over powered for this application at 28 amps, but is performing flawlessly for me. Have to say that all of the part are holding up well. Found a neat little park/field near my house and we are going to pack a picnic lunch and fly for a bit tomorrow Smile

[Picnic? WTF? Checks kaitylynn's location. Rolleyes]

Meh. It was no warmer than 41F here today and mostly raining. The forecast for this winter is snow covering the entire country from November to February and temperatures as cold as -5F as far south as Stockholm.

Sometimes, you can go off Californians!

A quick flight of the KT-110.  I am still baffled by the mysterious art that is tuning...for that, I think it flies pretty good right now!  This is using one of my Tattu 650mah 3S.
