A friend of mine built a Kissed Alien with Lumenier 2205 2350KV motors and a gopro 3 in the front but we have a hard time tuning that quad. The FC is flashed with the latest (RC28?) kiss software and the ESCs (24A) also run latest and greatest. It is a setup which is werry similar to what Finalglide is using, and by watching one of the latest videos from Joshua Bardwell, he had a similar setup but with emax red bottoms instead, and it flies good with Finalglides PIDs, so he propose to just use them to get it to fly. I know that different setups need different PIDs, but it shouldn't be that much off.
The problems seems to be the Pitch axis as when raising P higher than 4.5 it starts to oscillate at mid-throttle and increases with the throttle.
Finalglide PIDs
Roll 4.3 0.037 11
Pitch 7.1 0.038 18
Yaw 9.8 0.05 4
TPA 0.45 0.2 0.4
LPF Off
From my experience with Betaflight, you can raise P quite a bit before seeing major oscillations, but with the Kiss it goes from sloppy to oscillating long before you get that "locked in" feeling. I told him to try out Betaflight 3.0 on it, which he will, and see if that solves anything.
I find it strange that Kiss is so hard to tune, isn't that why it is called KISS - Keep It Super Simple?
I have been thinking hardware error, but I can't find anything out of the ordinary with his gear. The motors are smooth, new HQ props, FC is fixed on nylon standoffs with some O-rings. all the bolts are thightened up.
I have no previous experience with kiss, but maybe someone here have some tips on how to tune this bastard of an Alien?
