KISS Question
#1
Hello,
I have a question for the KISS guru's:

What does the "Filter / LPF Freq " field do ? When is it used ?

Thanks

If you have a noisy quad (bad motors/bearings, unbalanced or bent props, flexy vibrating frame) you could filter more (i.e. at lower frequency) so that noise doesn't get into gyro and mess up PID action.

However it's much better if you remove as much noise as you can at its source, as well as softmount the fc, because with too much filtering your quad will have worse response for example in propwash scenarios.

Thank you for the reply,
I tried using the filter, all the way to medium. Did not make any difference in my mid throttle ossolations,

I have one motor left to change out, hoping that's the issue.

Can a bad esc cause ossalations ?

The only thing that helped on my one quad that had mid throttle oscillations w/ kiss fc, was to lower the value for i-term TPA.

Is damage being done by mid throttle ossolations ?

To the recorded video files, yeah Wink

Well, technically, not directly. Guess if you run in mid throttle a lot, things could overheat though. It's probably not very good for the escs.

I recently switched from red silicone o rings and 4mm holes in the kiss fc to raceflight style gummies and suddenly had massive mid throttle oscillations. I then switched back and everything was fine again.

Short story, soft mounting the FC will help with mid throttle oscillations, but make sure you do it right.

Hello Oyninia,

I use the supplied rubber o rings that come in the kit that RR supplies.

I am very careful not to "crush" the o rings, but I am wondering if using 2 on each corner. At be beneficial ???????? or not.

It's a weird thing, I have 2 other machines that have the exact same set up, with no ossolations at all, and this one that gets them around mid throttle, but clear up at 100% throttle.

I have been playing with both the I term and the TPA settings as well as the filter set anywhere between off and medium........still no luck, also have changed all 4 motors and props.........

Are mid throttle ossolations prevalent in non KISS flight controllers as well ?

Or maybe the more accurate question to ask is:

Are mid throttle ossolations just a fact of multi rotors ?

Do you spend days and days getting rid of mid throttle ossolations, or at so.e point just live with them ?

It got me crazy back then, i wished i could flash betaflight on kiss fc for having more options but at that time it didn't work.

Anyway let me make it more clear, on my quad: changing TPA curve did NOT help - changing i-term did NOT help - the only thing that got rid of mid-throttle oscillations was: lowering the value for i-term TPA (the one in the PID table). I changed mine from default 0.15 to around 0.10, i read of other people later who put it to 0.00 to fix mid throttle problems.

Fftunes,
Thank you for that,
I will be lowering TPA I term only and will report back

If I were to flash beta flight onto the KISS fc, will it require resoldering, due to how the motors are later out differently between the two fc's ?

I think there is a setting for that in betaflight under quad configuration or something

FFtunes,
I lowered TPA I-term to zero, all other PID's are stock, there was some improvement, I then set the LPQ ? filter to medium , thins seemed to get a little worse, so I set the filter to medium high, got a little better.........

SSSoooooo, with those 2 adjustments, things definitely got better, but still not to the "smoothness" of my other 2 machines, guess I need to keep working on it...............

Yeah regarding filters i had the same... lower than "medium high" it got worse.
