Hi everyone,
I'm Emanuele from Switzerland (..no, that's a male name, I'm really sorry.. ), just joined & still tingly from everything being new, unknown, dead fascinating and, as usual, there's never enough time to enquire, to browse, investigate, try out..
I'm probably one of the older fellas here (turning 42, *yikes!), but I've always been a child @ heart. I work as a maxillofacial surgeon (..maybe that's why my time is a little limited - on the other hand, we're known to handle little sleep well.. ;-), but I used to have a jewellery manufacturing company for 10 years. Why I lost it after developing patents, alloys and having a book full of customers is another story. As usual, there's a lady involved..
However,
I find myself rushing between my practice, the OT and giving courses & lectures all over. There are seasons that are a little more relaxed, but generally the frequency is high ;-)
I had started end of last year getting a DJI mavic pro, which is a fine piece of equipment if you're into taking aerial pictures. Once I got my hands on a "real" quad, I realized that I had to unlearn the "dummy-drone-mode" and go for the real deal.
Concerning FPV, I'm a complete virgin, meaning that I just had some trials w a Hubsan FPV drone (brushed), which drove me mad pretty quickly because of the "corrected" flying commands. I prefer old school cars w clutch and little electronics to the new, supersmooth "driving computers" they call cars nowadays. Guess that's an analogy.
@ the moment:
Got DRL simulator installed in my office pc (..*psss!!, don't tell anyone..) and my taranis hidden under the desk, so whenever I get a moment, I exercise my coordination. Just started 3 days ago, so..
Meanwhile, I'm onto the project of getting some "real" drones,
I thought I'd apply the following scheme:
1. Simulator until I feel confident w the commands and I don't have to "think" too much b4 acting..
2. 3" indoor fpv drone (ordered KingKong 90gt, seemed a good start w the propeller shields..)
3. 4" outdoor fpv drone
4. I'm pretty damn sure that I won't stop there. To be honest, I'd easily put together a whole fleet of quads in an instant, if I could. There are so many different characteristics and factors to consider that I won't get around having as well a 5" and a 6" (..that one I'm really curious about..) over time.
I'll keep you posted on my progress, for the moment I'm still wet behind the ears
Just big compliments to everyone in the hobby, this is involving so many aspects (electronics, physics, computer science & programming, material science etc., etc.) - a perfect playground for nerds! (..I proudly define myself a nerd, or information-junkie..)
Keep it turning & read you soon,
safe & fun flying to everybody!!
Emanuele
