Just arrived..
#1
Hi everyone,
I'm Emanuele from Switzerland (..no, that's a male name, I'm really sorry.. Big Grin), just joined & still tingly from everything being new, unknown, dead fascinating and, as usual, there's never enough time to enquire, to browse, investigate, try out..
I'm probably one of the older fellas here (turning 42, *yikes!), but I've always been a child @ heart. I work as a maxillofacial surgeon (..maybe that's why my time is a little limited - on the other hand, we're known to handle little sleep well.. ;-), but I used to have a jewellery manufacturing company for 10 years. Why I lost it after developing patents, alloys and having a book full of customers is another story. As usual, there's a lady involved..
However,
I find myself rushing between my practice, the OT and giving courses & lectures all over. There are seasons that are a little more relaxed, but generally the frequency is high ;-)
I had started end of last year getting a DJI mavic pro, which is a fine piece of equipment if you're into taking aerial pictures. Once I got my hands on a "real" quad, I realized that I had to unlearn the "dummy-drone-mode" and go for the real deal.
Concerning FPV, I'm a complete virgin, meaning that I just had some trials w a Hubsan FPV drone (brushed), which drove me mad pretty quickly because of the "corrected" flying commands. I prefer old school cars w clutch and little electronics to the new, supersmooth "driving computers" they call cars nowadays. Guess that's an analogy.

@ the moment:
Got DRL simulator installed in my office pc (..*psss!!, don't tell anyone..) and my taranis hidden under the desk, so whenever I get a moment, I exercise my coordination. Just started 3 days ago, so..
Meanwhile, I'm onto the project of getting some "real" drones,
I thought I'd apply the following scheme:
1. Simulator until I feel confident w the commands and I don't have to "think" too much b4 acting..
2. 3" indoor fpv drone (ordered KingKong 90gt, seemed a good start w the propeller shields..)
3. 4" outdoor fpv drone
4. I'm pretty damn sure that I won't stop there. To be honest, I'd easily put together a whole fleet of quads in an instant, if I could. There are so many different characteristics and factors to consider that I won't get around having as well a 5" and a 6" (..that one I'm really curious about..) over time.

I'll keep you posted on my progress, for the moment I'm still wet behind the ears  Rolleyes
Just big compliments to everyone in the hobby, this is involving so many aspects (electronics, physics, computer science & programming, material science etc., etc.) - a perfect playground for nerds! (..I proudly define myself a nerd, or information-junkie..)

Keep it turning & read you soon,
safe & fun flying to everybody!!

Emanuele

Welcome Campagnium,

I am new too. I am on a similar path just about one month into the future so it's great to see someone else with the same trajectory!
I've tried out the DRL simulator too, it's pretty decent. I've learned a lot by running self-defined drills in the gates of hell shipyard. For now I am staying in liftoff though since I have a Vortex coming my way and they have the same model in there.

Heeehh-heehh..  Big Grin
Well, age is definitely relative, to my humble experience: I've treated 90 y.o. people healing far better than 35 y.o. - it's really about the attitude, curiosity, love for life, call it what you like..
..and this is where fpv comes in: When on the subject, I feel 6 years old, not 40. Feels bloody great, not planning to grow any older.. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
Enjoy, take care and read you soon!

Thank you mucho, Scot,
oohh this IS rocket science, as far as I'm concerned. I see so many variables, processes, technologies..
..it's like a market place where attitudes, technologies, science and social components come together. The only way to know for sure is looking back, but who wants to fly backwards all of the time? Thinking
I personally enjoy this confusion a lot. As a consequence, noone is entitled to "know the truth", and since we humans are so uniquely individual, there are as many realities as there are fpv pilots. This is still quite young, but I am convinced that fpv's going to play a huge role in the future. Maybe even a bigger one than is good for us,
so let's enjoy these times of the surge, the spreading, the growing knowledge and the fusion of technologies.
Too bad I'm so busy with my work  Wink, but I could entirely lose myself in the subject..
I'll do my best in terms of stick-time & I'll always be a passionate spectator among the crowd marveling at the pros.. Big Grin
Let's kick the sky's ass,
happy weekend!

Heya Carl-o  Big Grin,
thanx for the welcome! Tongue
I have no ambitions, to tell the truth, to impress anyone - way too absorbed by the wonders of the technologies and the possibilities resulting from it. I used to have a a jewellery manufacturing company a couple of years ago, which I had to give up out of personal reasons (yes, there's a female involved Poop), however I really missed the possibility of coming home, changing clothes and go into my shop, which was sporting 50 tons + of machinery & alloy melting equipment at the time. Friends were stepping by like that, with something to fix. Cars, lawn-mowers, bicycles, rc stuff, kitchen accessories - you name it. I had a crane lifting 5 tons, a 5-axis milling machine (from the 70s! - glorious manual analogue precision..) a.s.f.
I have my shop crammed together inside a rented garage, for the moment. I'm telling you I miss the access to my machines a damn lot. Cry
Ok, yesterday I went to the garage and got out my old stone-setting table (total 150 kg of wood), hieved it up to my living room and installed it next to the tv. I installed as well my binocular microscope (8-40x magnification, continuously adjustable) and the battery chargers, now waiting for the soldering stuff & my orders from banggood & aliexpress ROFL ROFL ROFL
Guess you guys know the feeling, waiting for deliveries ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL
So long, hasta priesto,
do & b well!

Too good! You got that from Fatboy Slim?
It's too true you learn way more from falling on your face than from victories, I agree!!
Very much looking forward to have some exchange of ideas & inspiration inside this addictive fpv-world,
be & do well & happy weekend!

You'll be surprised at the age of people who are in the RC hobby. I'm just about to turn 52 myself, but I've been a technology geek since my teens. It's only now when my children are grown that the amount of time I have that is mine has become sufficient to immerse myself in a hobby this complicated.

The fact that all of my income is mine to decide over since I got divorced also helps quite a lot! Big Grin
