Jumper T16/Crossfire/DJI questions
#1
Stupid question...

If I had a drone running DJI air unit, and had a Jumper T16 Pro V2 TX...I would obviously need a RX unless I want to use the DJI transmitter.

Now if I also had a TBS crossfire nano se RX....do I need the EXTERNAL TBS module in the T16 to get it to work, or can the T16 work with crossfire without any external modules?

This purely hypothetical *cough* question is going to cost me money I can tell already

Yes, you still need the Crossfire module. The protocols that are available in the Jumper are 2.4ghz. Crossfire is a 900mhz radio system.

FFS...I should have just kept it simple and got the DJI transmitter.

Is there a good receiver that I can use instead or should I get the module...? It's going to make the T16+module almost as expensive as the DJI transmitter.

TBH, you are far better off with your T16 Pro V2 and a Crossfire module than the DJI transmitter, even if it does work out to be more expensive. You won't need anything more than the Crossfire Micro TX module which will far out-reach the DJI goggles signal. The Crossfire Micro TX module is relatively cheap (less than half the cost of the Crossfire Lite), and it's a much neater solution than the full sized module so is the smartest choice for anyone who doesn't do long range. I have one and it's a top piece of kit.

If you don't want to shell out for a Crossfire module right now then get yourself an FrSky R-XSR (supports SBUS/S.Port and FPORT), a Jumper R1+ (supports SBUS/S.Port only), or a Jumper R1F (supports FPORT only). These are all 2.4GHz receivers that will work natively with your T16 (no module needed). You can get a range of ~1km from these receivers depending on environmental conditions.

While the DJI transmitter is a nice unit, it's way too basic for my liking and is designed for a "plug and play" solution which sort of goes against what this hobby is all about. With your T16 and a Crossfire module, you will also have the ability to use your transmitter for other quads that aren't equipped with a DJI Air Unit or Caddx Vista. So if you want to fly whoops and toothpicks you can use the T16 for all for those as well as DJI Air Equipped quads. Try doing that with the DJI transmitter. You can't. Also, your T16 is fully programmable and you'll be amazed at what you can do with it if you start researching it's capabilities. Try doing custom programming stuff on the DJI transmitter. You can't.

Thanks for your reply.

Well, I did it.

I ordered the TBS Crossfire Micro TX with Diamond antenna.

You are going to love it. It's just such a solid radio link. Basically the only thing on my drones that doesn't give me trouble. I think crossfire has a much shorter delay as well compared to the dji air unit but I could be wrong on that so don't take my word for it.

Also if you going to maybe build/buy a whoop or toothpick style quad or maybe even something bigger and you want to fly analog you already have a transmitter that supports it. You can also add analog video to your dji goggles relatively easy and run a rapid fire module for example.

You made the right choice man!
