It's happening!! [Martian II][Apicalis first build]
#31
How did you test the motors? If it's a noise issue messing up the gyro / PID, then theoretically the clicking shouldn't happen when you only test from motor tab (not armed by tx).

If it's still present hmmm... maybe add the signal ground wires? Oh, and grisha0's signature comes to mind Wink ("have you added low-esr capacitors?")

Come on guys! Let's try to hold off on the f-bombs, alright?! (This is not just to you Apicalis - but I gotta start saying something when I see it.)

EDIT: I'm serious guys - this is to everyone!!!

The caps that I added are low esr 470uF 25V. Yeah the signal ground wires definetly come to mind.

Understood captain *salutes*

Sadly I have to help my best buddy move today so I am probably not able to check on my quad Sad

Sorry, but no, I've never heard a motor make noises like yours do when throttling down. Not on any of my builds.

Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's just a 'feature' of these motors. In the end, it's whether it flies that's the measure you're interested in.

But i have to ask again just to make sure - did you spin up the motors only by motor tab sliders too while transmitter is turned off? Just because in your videos you always seem to use transmitter throttle stick... which opens up the range of possible issues to PID / filtering / physical noise / electrical noise.

That's an information I have been waiting for. Like u said, it might be normal with these motors but I can't imagine that. I will definetly check them again, mechincal wise and also the resistance of the windings.

I think not after I put on the props for the first time. I gotta try that again. But I am very sure that before I calibrated the ESCs, the exact same noises came mid throttle while i throttled up in betaflight (not the remote). Anyways I will definetly try that again

IT'S DONE!!!! It's finally working properly!!!

I've checked all the motors mechanically and tested the resistance of the windings (all were 0.2 Ohms). After that I decided to recalibrate the ESCs since I remember that after switching the rotation direction of two motors I hadn't done that.

And ... it works like a charm now!!! I am absolutely excited and really pleased with the results and it looks beautiful imo. I really dig all the purple parts

Only thing to fix now is the Noise in the Video feed which is of course a rather easy fix Smile

My big thank u video Big Grin

A little punchout

Some hovering and a punchout

I was so emotionally down because of the motor issues so it was an absolute relief to be able to fly properly and enjoy it since I put so much work into it

Great! Do the motors still sound strange?

Your second video is set as private.

Yeah i fixed the private issue thx

That's great! Hey, you might not have to remove your minimOSD to configure MWOSD - you can do it through Clean/BetaFlight. See this thread: http://intofpv.com/t-configuring-mwosd-w...leanflight

Looking at your first video, I can make a couple of suggestions about helping your video noise problems.

First off, twist the video and ground leads together both from the camera to the flight controller and from the flight controller to the VTX. Secondly, make sure you route the wires away from the beeper and any current carrying parts of the quad.

From the looks of it, your ESCs are only separated from the arms by the heatshrink. Do yourself a favour and re-mount them on some double sided sticky foam pads. If you don't, the vibration from the arms will eventually start to crack the ceramic capacitors. When that happens, the ESC will burst into flames! Big Grin

Don't tie wrap them down too hard either, if you pull the ties too tight, you'll be bending the ESC and they really don't like that.

Congrats! It looks great and definitely packs a punch. It seems in your 3rd video that there was some company in the air nearby somewhere (Can hear a helli flying)

I have a second minimOSD (accidently ordered 2) that I am currently trying to setup before I do anything on the actual quad. So far I am appearently to stupid to get it to work. This is my separate thread about it

Yeah I left them long for the first try and didn't twist them yet. I will shorten them tomorrow i guess and twist them Smile
Great advice on the ESCs. I definetly tied them down to hard. Absolutely didn't think about the forces that impact on the whole quad. Even if no caps break the copper lines on the PCB might break etc. that's a very serious issue. Thank you for the hint!

It's a small airport about 5km away. I think it was actually a single engine plane flying around approx 2-3km away. I of course don't intend to disturb air traffic and it was just a short flight.

Especially since the german GSG-9 Special police forces start their helicopters from there. It's their homebase.

Looks great! Gotta love it when all the hard work (well, it's not really work) pays off. One simple tip on the ESCs, heat up the zip-ties a bit first. They'll adhere to the contours of the ESCs much better without putting much pressure on them.

Already did that when i first tied them up. But still used a lot of strength so I will redo that
