It's About To Begin #2 - Walmart Drone Delivery Trial Begins
#1
It looks like everyone is ploughing ahead and filling our hobby airspace with commercial drones. Walmart now. Who will be next?

At least when you get caught short with your pants around your ankles, you'll be able to get an emergency supply of toilet rolls delivered to you by drone almost instantly from your favourite grocery store Big Grin

That contraption CANNOT be in production. 10 inch props with no guards? It's going to chop up some living stuff.

Wonder how long befire someone cracks the comm protocol and commandeers it even without nets and Mr. Faraday Smile

I still think this idea isn't sustainable.  It is full of potential civil liability.  Plus the theft of both the product and drone in metropolitan areas will be high.  And to be cost effective there would need to be thousands if not tens of thousands of drones in the air constantly in every metropolitan area.  My understanding the big draw is to reduce corporate costs by not having to rely on conventional delivery services like UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc.  Well, lawsuits may eat into that cost savings.

Also, each jurisdiction can have laws that will impede this process.  For example in my county the law states no drone can't be at an elevation below 250 ft above a residence.  The neighboring county the has both elevation levels higher and even distances laterally from the property.  Many jurisdictions have competing laws and the companies flying these drones will either have to comply some how or spend the money and time to get the laws changed, or just not fly drones there.

Clearly the technology is there to make it happen, but in the end I believe it likely will fail.  It will be fun to watch the news though with all the hiccups to come. Popcorn

I see amazon auctioning off the ones that are barely broken, as they do with returns.

We may be able to get some cheap parts!
