It all started with FPV, then I went on to the harder stuff!

Where? Where can we get help?
Never mind I'm pretty sure some of us are beyond help...

Any of you ever start thinking about doing any other sorts of RC craft? I've been thinking about trying my hand at cars/tanks, and maybe submarines if I actually get pretty good with the former. Heck, I've even been considering building a water turret for my cat who won't stay off the countertop. He thinks I can't stop him if I'm not in the same room as him.

I currently have an older rc10 buggy. In the past, I’ve owned a number of rc cars, boats, and planes.

When I was a teenager I made an airboat by cutting the tip off of a broken surfboard and bolting a tower hobbies .46 engine on it with a balsawood rudder, that thing was fun as hell to run around the local pond or around the grass in my yard.

I keep meaning to put a cam and vtx on my rc10.

Anyhow. These days I’m primarily all about quads.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

I do Fixed Wing power LOS (inc electric FPV), Fixed Wing gliders LOS, Fixed Wing Slope LOS, electric and i.c. Helicopters, i.c. buggies, i.c. truggies, electric cars (LOS and FPV), electric Hovercraft  (LOS and FPV), electric motorbikes, electric tanks (inc bb shot firing), and many years ago I raced i.c. and electric boats, and have done scale boats.

I briefly did RC controlled model railway, too, though didn't try FPV!

I would love to do a submarine, but it would have to be tethered as I can't see any plausible way of sending a signal through water on the budget I might have available. Sure you could pulse light or sound, but probably, only in clear water. Also what sort of bandwidth could you get using either. The way I kinda thought it might work is if you built two parts to the submarine. A surface boat type vessel, that would act as the radio link/command and control part of the project and the tethered submarine below it that could attach and detach from the surface vessel to perform dives.

It would make a cool project, but far beyond my tech skills and financial budget.

Beyond that I think an RC hovercraft would be massively cool and probably more possible.

Saw this a couple months ago, pretty cool:

I was wondering the other day if you could use INav's position hold function to hold a boat in position using thrusters instead of motors? Technically it no longer needs to worry about height, just controlling lateral movement via thrust vectoring (I think it's this concept anyway). In fact you could probably strip out the height checks from the software, as if it sinks it isn't going to work anyway.

Also the concept of a tethered submarine is actually pretty much the ROV concept. My ideas around it kind of stem back to the film "The Abyss", where by the moveable habitat on the sea bed is tethered by umbilical to a surface support vessel. But from an RC stand point, a smaller submarine/ROV would be more useful.

I attended the National RC Model Makers Festival in 1978 (as an exhibitor of RC racing Stock Cars). This was the days of 27MHz AM radio, and we had a lot of "dead" time waiting for our slots. In the swimming pool were several RC submarines, and they worked OK with only that crude gear. I didn't give them much attention so don't ask details!

HobbyKing sold a RC hovercraft for a while a long time back, foam body with an impact moulded over skin, One brushless lift motor, one for propulsion via a servo controlled cheap gyro stabilised vane.  2200mAh 3S, goes like stink............      I have one, still works!
