Is it worth it using goggles on sim?
#1
How much difference is there and is it worth it?  I have about $170 saved up and was going to use it for a build from bangood.  I can get pretty close to complete a build minus that batteries and goggles with the money.  Would you guys buy the quad and then get the goggles later or is it worth it getting them now to use with the sim and build the quad over time?

If you never flown FPV in acro, I recommend goggles and practice on simulator. You will crash and have a lot of repairs if you can't fly. You quad will spend more time on the bench than in the air. If you just want to fly LOS, then build your quad first.

The way I started was Radio first, then Goggles, then my first quad after. I can say for me it was the right order. I have been a big simulator guy from the beginning and probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% of my total stick time is on sims.

My thoughts now that I am much more experienced than when I started.

I fly my simulator all the time without goggles, but generally the day before flying days or the morning of I will put the goggles on and get some sim time with the goggles. I find this helps me feel more warmed up when I am flying in RL.

I agree with Carl. That is what I meant when I said simulator first. Yes Radio first to use simulator, then goggles.

I already am using the Sim, but is there a large difference in using goggles on the sim then just the screen? If not I am going to get the quad first if there is a difference I will be looking at goggles? If I should go with the goggle are these worth it? https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-Goggles...rehouse=CN

The worst case is the sale ends tonight. Otherwise it looks like they might jump 30 dollars more.

The goggles two have been out for about a year, they initially retailed at $150, so I doubt that they will go back up to that price point after so much time... Remember that BG are notorious for inflating the (non sale) prices. Just check the Eachine EV100 goggles, they have been priced at $99 since they were released, after about 6 months on the shelves, they are still saying that they have a 71% discount - priced at (would you believe it) $99!

I am sorry if I didn't answer the question directly enough. (re-reading my answer I realize that I didn't)

The answer to your question is that it doesn't look different, but it does feel different. The specific effect that it has on me is that I lose precision. So for example when I fly on my screen on the simulator I can fly closer to objects and through smaller gaps. When I put the goggles on I generally need more invisible space away from myself and objects to avoid crashing. My coordination, even now after a year, is reduced in the goggles. I am still pretty confident in my flying, but I am just a little less confident and a little less coordinated for precision.

I believe this is probably one of the biggest reasons that a lot of simulator flyers ask the question "why can't I fly as well in RL as I do on sims?". I think the other reason is because we're more careful in the air since it's more work to recover from a crash (at a minimum it's a walk of shame, at maximum it could mean full-blown repair)

Thank you Carl, I ended up just getting the goggles last night. Kind of like you stated about the feeling being different, I want it to be the same so no adjusting also can use these on my mavic pro as well. How do we mark the question resolved and mark the answer. I got some more questions but would rather make new threads for any people in my boat.

I think you can change the tag on the thread to "Resolved" or something like that if you edit the OP and change it next to the subject line. I don't think there is a feature to select a best answers but we all just click the like button a lot around here and every once in while click to add to reputation.
