IR-A8S receiver
#1
So, I've had two drone purchases from banggood; one x220s(first drone) and a standard x220 shortly after.

Long story short, I crashed the x220s and broke numerous things - bottom plate, arms - the drone had arrived in a semi-broken state with the vtx all screwed up, so I bided my time and bought the anniversary edition of the x220, as an ARF model.

Now, what I'm trying to work out from 0 experience is, can I use the IR-A8S receiver: https://gyazo.com/8f5c7ba7b60071bed73f8864b0eab0b4

In the ARF version of my x220. If so, is it just plug and play? I've spliced and soldered the wires together(it's not pretty but it works) as I didn't have the right connector and I'm confident doing soldering now - the receiver gets power indicated by the red light - but the controller doesn't actually do anything. I've entered in bind mode and bound the controller to the receiver, indicated by blinking red lights going to a steady light, but still no joy. I've hooked the FC up to my PC and on the receiver tab, nothing moves.

I'm racking my brains as to why it won't work but can't figure it out - hence why I'm here! If someones able to help me I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Edit: SOLVED! Thank you unseen!

How have you configured Betaflight?

As you can see on the receiver's cover, it can do three different protocols - PPM, S.BUS and IBUS. The receiver settings in Betaflight need to agree with what you have set the receiver to output.

So I'm running from the port at the back, which is SBUS I believe, however this is how the port config looks https://gyazo.com/19288b69b80fc884c3bb38b887983693 it won't keep the serial_rx on, when I save/reboot it turns itself off again?

You need to:

Set UART3 as SerialRX on the ports tab and then press the save button.
Then go to the configuration tab and set the receiver mode as Serial RX and the provider type as SBUS and press the save button.

Whenever you make a change in the configurator, you must press the save button before moving off the page or it will not save your changes.

Done & done. Saved & rebooted, the controller just doesn't make any of the motors move. When I fiddle with the sticks the light on the receiver flashes.

That's the problem with this hobby. One quad is zero flyable quads if you break it.

I don't like to count how many I have now! Smile

Hate to drag this up - But i'm on the X220 "S" model and I can't get my A8S to work - It's bound, BF says I'm in serial - SBUS mode..... Nothing. Receiver doesn't want to talk to the FC at all. And because it's an F4 flight controller.... I don't think I can just switch which inputs on the FC without soldering (There doesn't seem to be a connector plug input and I'm trying to avoid soldering on this brand-new quad). There is no connector for the receiver, the cable that is coming out of it is soldered into the FC.... The other end going to my receiver....

Any help would be much appreciated!!!
