In Philly at a conference Met reps from Orqa
#1
I’m in Philly at a teachers conference with my wife.. glad I came… didn’t get any flight time here. (My hats off to you guys that do city flying.. lowering my goggles without having someone watching my back makes me uneasy)
Anyway, at the conference there were a lot of “drones for education”.. mostly “tello” style (block programming and brushed motors).. but I did run into reps from Orqa. They had a booth promoting “drone soccer”(4s quad in a plastic sphere)… As I started talking FPV, HD-zero, their goggles, the digital system they have in the works.. I was quickly directed to another person… do not ask me his name.. but this is what I was told..”2  weeks, it will be ready in 2 weeks..” this was a joke, but YES, they are still working on a system, and want to make sure it’s upto their standards before release and GET THIS.. they are attempting to do this without electronics from China.  HOW? I have no idea..tried on 2 pairs of the goggles.. they are nice..FOV/ screens seem small.. image was hard to get a grip on three more was a lot of interference.
There was a company with “light show” type drones, I asked about them dealing with RID and flying multiple quads by one pilot (107).. he said they do waivers.. and seemed VERY confident with dealing with the FAA stuff.  They flew within a geofence they have.. it was kinda cool.. but the novelty wore off fast..
Most of the drone exhibits had to be flown in “net/tents”.. so chances of me burning packs out in the lobby area was out of the question…
Heading back tomorrow, gotta hit China Town today.. seafood prices are insanely cheap!

That's awesome. Sorry you couldn't fly the lobby, sounds like a good spot. I'm about 40 minutes south of Philadelphia. Navigating the city is always a joy.

… being on foot made it easy…had a blast! Great food, great pubs, met a lot of nice, honest people.. not looking forward to the drive tomorrow…
Even without flying.. I felt “comfortable “. And it was real nice…

Yeah, sometimes you just have to leave the quads at home and put the thought of flying to the back of your mind for a while so you can just enjoy whatever trip/experience it is from the ground. Whenever I go on a family vacation I never take my quads even there might be a place to fly where we're going. Sometimes it's more important to just spend some good quality time with friends or family without dragging all your gear along and then ending up with the trip being wholly centred around when and where you actually get to go flying.

Snow, no doubt! we had a great time together.. hit a old irish pub, great food, great drinks, 3 nights in a row... the drive home today was not as bad as we used to remember it (no kids or dogs this time) even with the A/C giving out ..wouldnt change a thing. I was just hoping to get some flight time while she was in seminars.... Did get a quick pack in when we hit a Distillery in south jersey.. the HDzero system didn't disappoint. Flew VERY conservative, unfamiliar territory... no issues.
At home now.. with my dags, having a glass of whisk(e)y... thinking of the past week...listening to some "Blues", burning a nice Fuente.. ... I do need to take more time to "stop and smell the roses.."FPV" gives us a short "fix" 4-6 minutes at a time.... it is a pin point focus,.. but it doesnt bring the full spectrum of senses.. aroma, taste, sound.. would be the complete "flight experience...
I will take what i can get.... no complaints from me in any way shape or form.....
To all, fly safe... live each day as it is your last. do not live to a callender day... FEEL life, make someone laugh....

Funny, I just realized.. all the “drone education programs” were either, small fpv whoops, or “tello”(brushed motors-block programming) type quads… nothing with DJI based systems..
