*** [IMPORTANT] Orqa Goggles -> DO NOT POWER ON ***
#16
I don’t think there’s any updates on new fixes for the Orqa Pilots/Race goggles yet?

I’m a fan of IRC/Orqa/Ghost products and it’s great to see they are standing behind out of the warranty goggles.

I can’t fly until my eye surgery heals up more so I haven’t even turned my goggles on yet.
I know my RTC is accurate because I set it up after my last firmware update.

Orqa offering to replace Velcro and faceplate foam is great but sounds a bit complicated and expensive.
Maybe if they sent out coupons so Orqa users can get the product from a local vendor instead of from Croatia.

From what I understand there is no fix at all for V1 not even sending them in has been decided as a fix?

Orqa made an announcement about an our ago that the bootloader bricking issue on all their goggles was caused by ransomware that was planted as a time-bomb in the bootloader code by a disgruntled ex-contractor who was working for them in the past. Full details are in another post which is linked to below...

We have a clean solution for V1 and V2. The team was able to neutralize to malicious software and find a fix. We are testing it extensively, and we expect to publish it tomorrow morning CEST.

Once everything calms down a little bit - we will share even more details of this event.

I would like to thank everyone for the patience and support. It is incredible to see how much positive feedback we got during past few days.
Thank you!

Jon E5 has just published the following video documenting the drama that unfolded at the Ice Storm event. It's interesting to see how they all dealt with the situation and managed to pull through the weekend mostly unscathed after a bit of trackside goggle surgery...

Another announcement from Orqa below. The fix should be released soon, after it has been successfully beta tested and proven to work.

For safety reasons, the FW is first being released to a limited group of beta users.

Public release coming out shortly.

For anyone following this thread but not the other one, the fixed firmware for the Orqa FPV.One goggles is now available. Oscar has posted the details in the other thread HERE.

Be aware that quite a few people are reporting that the "fix" isn't working on their V1 goggles. See the comments under the Facebook post linked to above. I guess the beta testing yesterday didn't go as well as it could have done.

Looking at what is inside the new firmware zip files, there is also a license folder under there with a license update BIN file in, just like the ones that SWARG originally released to extend the license date to 1st July 2023. So my guess is that the original SWARG bootloader software is still present in the goggles (because it's separate from the main goggles firmware), but Orqa have probably managed to reverse engineer one of the extension license files that SWARG posted and figured out how to change the data in it to extend the date much further into the future, or maybe indefinitely (i.e. 31/12/9999).

I don't think there is any way that Orqa could have rewritten their own new bootloader from the ground up in just a few days, and if they had the in-house capabilities to do that they wouldn't have needed SWARG to develop one for them in the first place. So it's probably best to treat this as a band-aid plaster that has been applied to SWARG's unchanged bootloader firmware. Only if/when that can be completely replaced with something else will any licensing requirements of the bootloader firmware then be completely eradicated.

EDIT: The plot thickens. See my other post at the link below...
