I've got a doozy of a problem with my radio
#1
Hi, maybe someone has seen this tumbling issue I'm running into.

Recently upgraded my mambo gimbals to V2s. Ran a calibration (which is a very fickle process if you look it up between this and the tango 2) and I'm seeing full -100 and 100 readings on all the channels... I've run this probably 15 times at this point one stick at a time to be sure.

I'm on Fettec Alpha so the 'receiver' tabs BF people are used to is called Signals, and it uses a different scale 0-1000 for min/max signal. Things seem to check out on paper. Full stick deflection is getting me the expected 0 or 1000 readout in the GUI.

Also it's worth noting that nothing has changed on my rigs... it's been the same set up and build for about 3 years...and this issue is happening on all my quads and only popped up with the new gimbals.

------------- The Issue -----------

On full stick deflection pitch or roll in any direction, it will tumble out of control.

If I pitch forward to do a half flip, it'll do it, but it will continue to tumble as if I'm not pulling back on my stick.... It's as if it's unresponsive to my stick input for X time and then I might be able to catch it before it hits the ground.

Same with rolls, it'll roll but it'll continue in the direction almost as if it's not getting me pulling back on the stick for correction.

Safe to say it makes it impossible to fly.

Ideas appreciated.

Matt

I’d suggest opening your mambo back up, checking to see that the gimbals are appropriately seated, that the magnets aren’t loose/dirty and are also well seated, and that no wires are being pinched or can be pinched when the sticks move.

Wouldn’t hurt to check the solder joints on the gimbals as well as the plugs where they connect to the board as well.

Edit- it appears those buggers don’t have solder joints and the hall sensors are on the board itself, so my best guess is a magnet alignment issue or loose magnets, but that’s just a guess.

While the problem may not show up when you’re calibrating or watching the kiss version of betaflight’s receiver tab, I’m assuming that you make much harder and quicker movements while in flight. Might be worth seeing if you can recreate it doing hard fast movements on the signals tab, and if so, then opening it up and realigning things and checking the magnet fit/alignment and gimbal alignment and then seeing if you can still recreate it. Might save your quad from a potentially damaging tumble.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

If you have the ability to capture any blackbox logs you could look at those to see what the FC is seeing as stick inputs.

Also maybe simpler would be to add sticks to your osd if possible.

I managed to figure it out, and much of an issue in the end -- just confusing because the Fettec GUI doesn't show apples to apples between the different tabs. I ended up making a video on the fix, if anyone wants to see it. Hope it's okay to post videos here...
