Huge funding boost for DRL ahead of London 2017 Finale
#1
The insurance company Allianz and Sky, enticed by the speed with which drone racing is increasing in popularity, have backed the DRL by contributing a cool $20 million dollars towards growing the sport, news came out just 1 day before the of the Drone Racing League finale being held in London's Alexandra Palace today. (13/06/17)

The DRL have almost doubled the amount of funds contributed by large corporate business from the $12 million raised last year, and with the 33 million television viewers and 40 million online viewers in 2016, you can understand why household names such as Sky are jumping on the bandwagon. Handily coinciding with London Tech Week, Europe's largest technology festival, there will be plenty of (us) geeks in town to take full advantage of the myriad activities.

I am really excited to hear about big business jumping in with backing for the DRL, with that backing should come more advertising and fans of the sport, fans bring money, and money brings development.

There are still 'floor' tickets left for today's action at Alexandra Palace, tickets for the finale are available here for 22 quid, I hope someone from the forum can make it and represent us all at IntoFPV!

This is a vid from the BBC's live facebook page yesterday, with a few interviews and some info on the pilots, courses and competition winnings. Looks like the actual results are being closely guarded until the sky broadcast, Apparently it was broadcast live on Sky Sports Mix..? Still cant find any info, but I will keep checking...

holy crap Gab707 is smoking the competition! I haven't watched the new orleans finals yet but wow he's doing amazing.

and also Jet? I can't believe he's not doing better. Then again I'll be watching the NOLA round 3 finals as soon as they show up on my DVR so maybe he does better this round...

It's been fun to watch though. Regardless of you how feel about the program those guys are definitely great pilots!
