HS1177 VS Runcam Swift
#1
Foxeer HS1177 or Runcam Swift? Which is better an why?

I have a couple of HS1177 cams in both PAL and NSTC. Using the exact same settings I feel the NTSC cameras look a lot better. I'm not sure if I can make the images look the same if I change the settings on the PAL cameras even further.

Original Swift was garbage due to its failure rate. The hs1177 is a great cam and always will be. The image was great with the Swift, i'd say a touch better than my 1177's. If they've fixed the durability issue with the new Swift then it's not a bad option.

Regarding PAL and NTSC, from what I understand, PAL has extra tvl more than NTSC. I had a pal Swift so I figured maybe that's why it had a bit better image? If your noticing the opposite then I'm not sure anymore. You should be able to get the pal to look just as good as the NTSC.

Swift and HS1177 use the same sensor and SuperHad II processor. The only difference between the two is the surrounding discrete components and PCB layout.

I agree though, the Swift definitely had some issue with the first few batches. New batches solved those with epoxy and some foam between the back plate and the PCB. I'm running them in most of my quads. Also have the Foxeer Arrow v1, which has a nice image, but the firmware was a disaster. Wish I had waited on that one.

PAL has higher resolution (625 lines) but lower frame rate (25FPS), while NTSC has lower resolution (525 lines) and higher frame rate (30FPS)

I see speak of 'the first batch(es?) of the Runcam Swift' in this thread. Which period are we talking? Is there any way to check which batch a cam came out of?

The issues with the Swift were not solved with epoxy and foam tape, the symptoms of the issues were alleviated.  If you have to put epoxy and foam tape in a camera to stop video drop out, the camera still has a design flaw or they are using a batch of bad component(s)......IMHO.  I have a Swift that has no foam, no epoxy and no issues, so at some point they did FIX the issue.
