Hs1177 sensitive to vibrations?
#1
I had an diatone et160 with a hs1177 foxeer cam, which I crashed. After that, the camera worked fine when just standing on the ground not armed, but once armed, it is black lines all over and the picture sometimes jumps.

Now I have built a grasshopper 160 with a Runcam hs1177 and yesterday when flying, my screen went black and I could only see my osd.

Today I tested both of the cameras in the frame on my desk, and they both work fine until I start the motors. I was thinking electrical noise at first, so I took the camera out of the frame and held it in my hand while running the motors. Now I had no problem with my picture, so I guess it has something to do with vibrations.

Are these cameras sensitive to vibrations? I'm thinking that it could be something loose or bad soldering in them, but I'm not sure where to start looking

if vibrations cause this, you should check the wiring - those plugs often fall apart - pins pull themself out of plug or socket pulls pins out of camera board. I soldered some wires to my runcam directly and have no issues with it at all.

This can also be oscillator crystal or sensor itself if one of them is loose, you should add some solder on or epoxy/hot glue like this for example: https://oscarliang.com/hot-glue-runcam-swift-camera/
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Thanks!

On the Runcam it was the Oscillator crystal where the leg closest to the sensor was loose. Soldered it up, applied hot glue and now it looks to be working fine again.

Next step is to figure out what is loose on the Foxeer as it doesn't seem to have that same crystal on the board

Great you fixed one out.

It has to have oscillator, but it may be SMD type. Power the camera and check wiring + plug and socket and try to wiggle the sensor chip. You can also check the wiring on VTX and PDB if you're passing signal trough it.

The cables are all good, I went over all the connections and resoldered the power to the PDB and applied some hot glue to the connector to it keep the cables in place. I will try to power up the other camera and wiggle the sensor as you mentioned, and come back with the result.

I also filled the inside with some foam and that made a huge difference! No more mid-throttle shaking!

I did some more testing on the foxeer camera, and just like you proposed Konrad, I loose the picture if I wiggle the ccd sensor. I resoldered all the pins on the "wiggly" side and guess what, I don't loose the picture anymore when wiggling. So now I got my fingers crossed that this camera is also saved from the bin

Great! It still would be a good idea to reinforce it with a dab of epoxy.

I've had no issues with my hs1177 camera . It's solidly mounted. I guess if it can move on you it might be but I haven't had any issues on 2 diff frames mounted 2 different ways.

I tested it on a new build yesterday and guess what, it works perfectly!

I'll need to get me some epoxy to reinforce these sensors.
