Hey Guys, Unlike the olden days, CF no longer snaps in half. Instead, the CF will delaminate, get soft and maybe warp a little. You can keep flying with it, but it might give you hot motors and just not perform well. This is basically what happened to a lot of the Hyperlite Floss arms I had, they got soft after a few crashes. I used this at the Regional Qualifier in Buffalo, I had some really bad crashes and nothing broke except the props. I can speak from experience that the 5mm CF I'm using is better than the Floss ones. I order from a Canadian company called CNC Madness, they have very high quality carbon fiber. http://www.cncmadness.com/ If you are in the US or Europe, I believe it's flat rate $5 shipping from Armattan productions, so it might be better to order from them. As you might already know, Armattan probably has one of the best quality CF out there. The only problem with Armattan is that they don't have the correct length of the screw (you might need 25mm screw, depending on your build) and they also don't have a 3d printing service. You will need to print your own pod. I have 4 of these left from the second batch. I can ship it anywhere, buyer pays shipping. Q&A: Is this ok for a begginer? Absolutely. The arms are thin but they are 5mm thick. As long as you're not crashing full speed into concrete or metal beams, you should be good. Will it fit a 20mm stack? No. You will need an adapter. I think there's lots in thingiverse. I will eventually make one when I get a bit more free time Posts: 5,322 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,159 in 1,747 posts Likes Given: 2,032 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 (13-Jul-2018, 08:34 PM)trojanGoat Wrote: Hey Guys, Unlike the olden days, CF no longer snaps in half. Some people like the frame and others feel that it's just a clone of the Merica. My only intent with the design was to let it evolve and have others give it a shot. So... In the interest of keeping this project alive, I've decided to release all the files publicly and make this an OPEN SOURCE frame!. I'm just trying to find a good system to keep track of all the file changes, but I'll release the files within the next few days. Now, everyone can go and cut their own version of this frame and feel free to modify it as they see fit. It's great to see more open source projects in the community now. Github would be the obvious choice for hosting it, but if you're not familiar with git itself then there's a bit of a learning curve. Have you used any source control software before? • Posts: 328 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 191 in 85 posts Likes Given: 39 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 16 27-Jul-2018, 12:59 PM (This post was last modified: 27-Jul-2018, 01:29 PM by trojanGoat.) Hi Banelle, I haven't used Github, but I was considering putting it there. I made a github page!!, wasn't too difficult at all https://github.com/trojanGoat/howietzer Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 And you already have at least one download.... • Posts: 328 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 191 in 85 posts Likes Given: 39 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 16 I made some design improvements and now version 1.2 is available online . It just gets difficult to maintain when I have the files all over the place. I will stick to github for now. • Posts: 328 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 191 in 85 posts Likes Given: 39 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 16 Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 (04-Sep-2018, 02:55 AM)trojanGoat Wrote: Brilliant! The radii added to center plates are not only great looking but will definitely add even more durabilty. And the option for a 20x20 stack! WHAATS UUUP! I will be flying one by next season for sure! Hopefully it won't be too long into winter before I can start the build. Well done again TGoat! • Posts: 328 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 191 in 85 posts Likes Given: 39 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 16 04-Sep-2018, 03:26 PM (This post was last modified: 04-Sep-2018, 03:27 PM by trojanGoat.) |
