How to land a TBS Oblivion without rolling it
#1
Exclamation
Hey friends --- So I've had a lot of fun flying my drone, but I've just messed up another VTX antenna as I can't seem to easily land this darn thing. Does anybody have some tips?

I've noticed that top mounted drones can kind of be plopped down at slow speeds because of the flat bottom, but not this oblivion, and I'm about tired of buying new antennas lol. I think I'm going to get a stubby.

Cheers
A Frustrated new pilot

It just takes practice. And find someplace soft.

Try land a little further away from you. Where you will not hit anything. Don't think of trying to land. Just think about slowly descending. Ignore the ground. As soon as you hit the ground, disarm.

I disarm just before I hit the ground so props don't get caught up in grass. Also have foam landing pads stuck to the bottom of my arms to give me a bit of extra landing space.

I've heard about putting Air Mode on a switch and turning it off when landing can help. Air Mode can cause you to bounce against the ground until you disarm.

I find it better to have my disarm on the same side as my pitch and roll. This way I can make it level and leave it. I then adjust the throttle to get closer to the ground and disarm when I am 10 cm above ground.

With a bottom mount battery my best advice is to come in slow and low. Keep pitching back until you are looking up at an angle similar to your cam angle. As you feel your forward speed come to a stop, start lowering throttle slowly until you feel the ground and then kill it.
Basically just try to stop any forward momentum, come to a hover and descend.

This is how we used to do it when Airmode when it first came out. Airmode used to cause crazy bump when landing if active. This is usually not that case anymore, but does still happens with some quad. It still happens with my BetaFPV 65. I still set a switch for Airmode. Just me being old-schooled.

This is great advice as well. I was out today and spent 3 packs flying low and slow and coming to a normal landing without rolling the TBS. I was successful at low speeds, so I'll gradually increase the speed till I can control it enough to bring it to an abrupt stop and land.
