How to know orientation of a quadcopter in LOS? |
23-Mar-2017, 12:24 AM Whats the best way to know the orientation of your quad LOS? 1. use LED (front/back different colours) 2. always try to move forward, once you stop you will start to get confused. 3. Prop colour (front/back different colours) 4. if you do flip/rolls, count how many 360 you have done (if you do multiple of them ) 5. practice! it will become natural once you have enough practice... 23-Mar-2017, 01:21 AM Using LED's was the easiest way for me to get it. Aspiring FPV Pilot. Checkout my videos on YouTube 23-Mar-2017, 07:18 AM LED and different color props front and rear. Bigger figures you need to fly blind. Helicopters are easier with their tailboom sticking out... 23-Mar-2017, 09:17 PM (This post was last modified: 23-Mar-2017, 09:19 PM by Drone0fPrey.) All of those ideas are great and work very well. Ive even gone as far as painting the shell on my old Syma when I first started out. Really whatever helps you keep that mental image of what way your craft is pointing. I currently have a small piece of neon Duct Tape covering the cable section of my fpv antenna. That along with the battery cables hanging out the back, and the orange runcam up front. It becomes easy, for me, to orient its head and tail for LOS. Good luck and nothing beats practice All the tips above are great and practice is the most important thing. 2 months of fun flying outdoor with cheap small toys, even in a level mode, a few tiny packs a day. That is a solid base to fly almost anything and orientation should slowly start ticking inside your brain automatically even if you start doing flips/rolls with random props and no leds. Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car 23-Mar-2017, 10:02 PM Good advice Drone0fPrey. I find it helps to keep moving at all times and take strong winds into account. If you're moving, it's easy to see where the quad is flying by the line it takes when you try to change direction and it becomes second nature. All you need is time and batteries! 24-Mar-2017, 09:35 PM (This post was last modified: 25-Mar-2017, 12:43 AM by Dutch Drone Builder.) Sometimes you also see that they put a ping pong ball between the front arms so you can easy see what the front is, i can't get find a good picture of it. 25-Mar-2017, 12:34 AM I use LEDs. Based on my 250mm experience LEDs around the arms/motors will end up being the only way to orientate at the limits of LOS for the frame size. Its amazing how indistinct propeller colour can be when spinning in the distance. Coloured arms or tape could help too. My next build I'm likely to try painting it a bit too. 25-Mar-2017, 12:58 AM I usually find out what the orientation of mine is after it bounces off the tree....... "Damn the torpedoes!!! Full speed ahead!!!" The following 5 users Like sirdude's post: • Aaron, Carl.Vegas, sloscotty, Drone0fPrey, Dutch Drone Builder |
