How to improve my setup?
#1
Exclamation
Hello guys this is the question for more advanced pilots that have tested a lot of different gear and quads or have more knowledge than me. I build my second quad and still not satisfied with this setup I know that I could basically change almost every part but I want to still stay cheap.

Could you advice me what will have the most impact on my setup? I would like to fly fast acrobatic, have very stable and smooth video and still stay as cheap as I could. I want to change frame from a longer time but I could not

My setup now:
  • ZMR250 Frame  - Yes I know Sad not sure that if I will buy QAV-R or QAV210 frame I can fit all parts there I don't have Taranis and could not use the small RX only the huge cased IA6B. Here is also the place where I'm counting on advice. QAV-R has 4mm replaceable arms but the frame (even in China) is a bit expensive. QAV210 is cheap but it has 3mm solid plate on the bottom. There is Alien/Martian Frame also but they are wierd for me. Wierd pdb and battery under the quad etc.

  • RacerStar BR2205 2600kv motors - They are ok I think. Cheap and powerful

  • RacerStar 30A V2 BLHeli_S ESC's - quiet happy with them

  • RunCam PZ0420H - Yes I know Sad  The picture for me is fine but the case isn't. It will probably not fit in QAV210 or QAV-R frame right?

  • TS5828 600mW - it is small but after few flights it is hetting warm and there are some issiues with the video

  • Minim OSD

  • Fly Sky Fs-i6 with IA6B receiver over IBUS (Taranis is waaaaay to expensive but they have great RX with Telemetry and RSSI Sad

  • Naze 32 rev 6 (knockoff) waiting for X racer F303 (still in transit) and want to switch from CleanFlight to BetaFlight

  • Matek PDB

  • Xiaomi Yi with Waffle mod

  • Quannum V2 Pro googles -  I know fatsharks are cool but they work and costs me about $40

  • I'm flying on 3S 30C but today I ordered Tattu 1300 4S 75C (that will make the difference)

I know FC is shit so I ordered some with F3 processor. I'm still thinking of frame, camera, VTX and so on. There are so many things that could be improved. I could Get rid of cables with MinimOSD if I will buy Camera or PDB with OSD, I could use smaller RX if I will buy Taranis and so on, but that are expensive stuff so Is there any part that have to immediately replaced in my setup and I will feel the difference? I'm flying on 3S and this setup and get a lot of noise in the video. That is only PID issiue? Will changing from CF to BF make a difference? I know a lot o f questions...

Frame is a matter of prerefence. I believe Martian can carry the lipo on top. It's a good, modern, beginner friendly frame (lots of room).

Motors are fine, but depending on what you want to do - 2600kv are not efficient at all.

ESCs are fine, you could also be fine with 20A if you decide on lower KV motors.

VTX: 200mw will be a better choice as difference in range will not be noticeable as you probably won't fly further than 300m (correct me if I'm wrong)

Flysky RX: ia6b is huge, but you can depin it to save some space , or you can get a ia6c (hobbyking) or wait for a small a8s

xracer is a great board for betaflight

Matek PDB - can't comment on this, I have seen as many people complaining about cheap PDBs as those that happy with them. I reviewed one chinese PDB with integrated OSD and OSD failed on it... I use Demonrc PDB's exclusively and those work flawlessly. You can do something like on the photo below to make minimosd as small as you can, but you still have 6 wires Smile just note, that I made a mistake in soldering this one - TX RX wires are on wrong pads. I've seen people are very positive on rrosd PDB (OSD integrated), you could try that.

Fatsharks are cool, that's why I'm a hipster and use a modded quanum V2 (with pro addon kit Wink )

Those Tattu packs will be good for beginning the adventure with 4s, not bad, but not top of the line. (battery choice can lead to a loooooooooooooooong discussion)

Thank you for your answer KonradS.

The frame is clue for me for now. I want small quad that can fit all my parts and still will be strong and cheap Smile I know you can't have always everything.
Motors are killers for my battery (tested on 3S 1300mah) maybe that was mistake that I didn't buy regular 2300kv. It is too late for now they have to stay.
VTX are strong because I din't want to loose signal anytime in the air. Maybe I will change it someday to switchable one.
TGY-iA6C I didn't know that thing exists I'm not sure it will bind to my radio (I go the older FS I6, not the newer with touch screen) and even hobbyking doesn't have i in stock but idea is nice or I can try to decase my IA6B you're right.
Matek PDB - no problems with this one at all but that deamon seems interesting. Not so cheap but it will let me throw away the minimosd and all that wires.

TGY-ia6c will bind to flysky i6 no problem since both use AFHDS2A. They may be mentioning i6s because of marketing reasons or because regular i6 doesn't support setting SBUS on RX (only ibus). But they still should connect.

DemonRC Core doesn't come with OSD built in, it just reduces amount of wires from all FPV components.

Do you have other props to test? I know everyone is still on the 3-blade hype, but especially the high kV motors lack torque to drive them properly, which in turn leads to high current/battery drain.

And the difference between 3s and 4s is huge. Don't worry too much about your setup until you know what it can do with a 4s battery. Wink

Here is what i would have done myself in the order of priority:

1. Go to 4S, higher voltage will boost your quad's top power and responsiveness. But you might want to use 2 blades props instead for 2600KV. 5045HBN is a good choice and 30A ESC should be able to handle. You wan to stick with stiff props, soft/thin props might not work well on such high RPM as they start to deflect (such as Gemfan 5030/5040, no good)
2. Install the XRacer F3 and use Betaflight as soon as you can
3. Change to 5" frame, closer motor distance will give you more responsive copter.

I'm happy to see all that answers for my problem. Many thanks.

I decided that it is time to change the frame (I know winter is coming and there will be no weather to fly but I want to do it anyway) so today I bought QAV-R 5" frame and new 4S lipo is on my desk now. X Racer is on the way. That I hope will change the whole experience for FPV.

Now Im using DAL 5045x3 props I have some DAL 5045x2 Bullnose so I will try them also with 4S. Will update this topic when my "new" quad will be alive!
