How to flash BLHeli bootloader to DYS 16a ESC
#1
I am unable to connect to my ESCs using BLheli suite, so I am assuming I don't have the BLheli bootloader.   I was told to get a USBasp
programmer, so I ordered one and a Atmel Atmega Socket Firmware Flashing Tool.   Today those items came in the mail and I found that the Atmel Atmega tool is too big for the chip on my DYS 16a ESC.

What are my options now?   There are solder pads on the ESC's, but I have no idea how or what do to in order to get them connected to my USBasp tool, or if that would even work.   Help????

I used to flash my DYS 16's with a Arduino nano v3 in Blheli Suite, the tool also allowed me to select simon K or blheli bootloader.

Hope that helps you. Smile

While these guys didn't use the Arduino USB flasher, the principle is the same.

I think the dys 16a has the same layout as the 20a? This might also help you : http://blog.oscarliang.net/change-bootloader-esc-atmel/

What did you make your "arduino-flash-esc-header-pin-solder-pad-clamp-diy" out of?   Do you just hold it on the solder pads of the ESC?

That’s just a 6-pin female header pin connector, swap out the female header pins with male header pins, so they stick out nicely and evenly… and then when you flash the ESC, you just press the “flash tool” on the solder pads Smile

You could use a peg with the pins attached to it, similar to this:

Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1

Thanks for the info and pics.   I think I can make something up to get this done.

I GOT IT TO WORK!!!! I had to hold the pins a little differently on the pads, and then I got it to work. You are correct when you say it takes steady hands. Thanks for the help guys.

Hi guys, maybe I wrong, maybe I'm too newbie... but this guy on YouTube is changing the firmware, not the bootloader... Isn't?
