How important is it to leave antenna exposed on receivers?
#1
I use an FrSky X4R receiver.  They come with the last inch or so of the receiver antenna exposed.  I just picked up some nice 3D printed parts that let me mount the antennas to the standoffs on my frame.  No more ugly zip-tie solution for me.  Except the tubes on this completely cover the X4R antenna in plastic.  Is this going to be a problem? It's been rainy the last few days so I haven't flown with it yet.  Will it reduce my signal or not really have any effect?  I always fly at home on a couple acres so no long distance for me.

As long as the tubes are plastic or something that is basically non conductive, it should have no appreciable effect on your range.

Awesome. Flew it this weekend, 0 problems. Even flew outside my regular distance. These things handled crashes so much better than zip ties and heat shrink.

Haha nice, i like the sound of "antenna chopper", i could apply too...

One thing to be aware (though i haven't verified myself, just read about it) : some shrink tubes or plastic parts are said to use kind of a carbon dust to get the black color. In this case it would matter.

Hmmmm....I hadn't thought about that....but if it's true, I would think you're absolutely right.

Hi...i will say an RX antenna is a pretty common coax cable, which basically means it has a wire inside a wire. It has a layer of protective skin on the outside provides physical protection (plastic). And the next beneath the plastic there is a layer of metal wires which is used to shield the the wire. It prevents outside noise from getting in or out because it’s grounded.
