How do you protect your antennas?

The glue transforms into a foamy expanding substance which covers the lobes of the antenna and when cured, leaves a semi-hard shell. I have been thinking about combining this method with the new aomway "hats" an I assume that they will be almost as bulletproof as the tbs triumph

This is not a good idea.

Covering the lobes of the antenna will change the antenna's tuning. This will reduce range and increase the SWR of the antenna resulting in much more power being reflected back to the output stage on the VTX. Too high SWR will overheat the VTX and eventually damage the output stage as well.

I haven't noticed any issues yet. I have been 1km out without any breakup what so ever.

Isn't it worse for the swr when crashing and bending the lobes?

I also thought that the TBS triumph was filled with some kind of foam material as well?

Bending the lobes will certainly detune the antenna as well. I'm surprised you get such good range to be honest but then again, you might be using high power. Smile

Using some kind of foam or similar is OK if the manufacturer has designed the antenna to use the foam, or if the foam has a dielectric constant that's the same as air. If it looks like air, it won't change the antenna tuning.

Maybe the foamed up gorilla glue achieves exactly that effect. I've no idea where I'd get any gorilla glue here in Sweden though or I'd give it a test.
