Hobby wing for fpv is like plant based “meat” is to a cow
#1
I hang with some OG fixed wing guys, they are very inviting, and cool to fly with. I am on their email group, and read the latest. A member got a new gyrocopter, sounded cool, I typed the make/model in the “Google machine” and Hobbywing popped up.. I watched the video and was thinking “pretty cool”..
I then went through hobbywings site…no I can easily understand why some fixed wing pilots don’t venture into quads or fpv. First let me say if u need a battery.. oh they have every shape, size, that can be imagined. I saw a 5000mw 1s lipo… thought about it until I saw that it weighed 148g.
Anyway, as I was saying.. their “drone” section was pretty much .. leftover junk.. I saw one FC, looked at the specs.. it was cleanflight or Basefight…NOT betaflight BASEflight. Maybe one motor to choose from (tenergy-$5).. ALL SORTS of props.. with “adapters”.. they looked the same too. One maybe two VTXs, but the cameras had a few good cadxx ratels ..now batteries.
Did I mention BATTERIES, holy shnikes! If u can’t find it there .. they don’t make it..granted they are not high “c” discharge.. but they are fairly cheap. If ur looking for a large capacity lipo for your goggles.. this many the place..
But like I said, if I was a fixed wing pilot.. this is my “go to” shop.. and if I wanted to “look” or dabel into a quad.. this site is NOT friendly … I didn’t even look at the fixed wing aircraft… but did I mention they have a selection of batteries…???

HobbyWing are manufacturers of electronic components like ESCs for Fixed Wing and Heli's. Have items from them happily working well from near 20 years ago.

HobbyKing is a general seller, been around decades.  Assume you mean them. THEY have a lot of various LiPo, inc their own Turnigy, Graphene, and Nano-Tech branding.

Experience here in my group is they don't hold up even for lower demand Fixed Wing and Heli's.  Cannot recommend their batteries these days, they were OK ten years back, when 15-25C was normal output. Technology moved on, they didn't.

Their only saving grace is that they do such a range that some proportions of batteries otherwise hard to get are still sold, like some of the long thin packs. (not quad of course)

They shut down their UK warehouse, and the Euro warehouse refused to send to UK, so anything is now from China, with all that entails. That didn't enamour them to UK modellers!

Hobbywing make high quality ultra reliable electronics. You will find their FC's and ESC's widely used in the racing scene where reliability matters.

HobbyKing are the company who got fined $2.8 million USD by the FCC in the USA for selling non-compliant VTX's that exceeded the maximum permitted power output. The only thing I ever bought from them was my FatShark HDO Goggles back in July 2018. Since then they seem to have abandoned the FPV market completely, and the drone related parts they currently have listed on their website are all dated designs which look like something from way back in 2015 or earlier.
