High altitude living
#1
I purchased a cabin in the mountains and finally got a chance to fly my Apex 5” freestyle quad. I am running four inch pitch props that are from Ethix and the quad bobs up and down like it’s windy. I’m at 6,200 feet. Do I need higher pitch props or is it something I’ll have to adjust in PID? Thank you for any suggestions.

Flying will definitely require some extra throttle input if my experiences at that altitude are universal. I actually shift my 7" from bi-blade to tri-blade when I fly in the mountains behind our property...about 6500'. It takes a bit of cruising to get used to it, otherwise my muscle memory fails me and I skip the ground until I start to get the motors really spun up. The thin air is another world!

If you are already flying 3 blade props, a more aggressive design can be beneficial. If you have any throttle EXPO set up, raise its center point about 15% and that will help settle out the "bobbing".

Thank you very much. I need to try some different props.
