Hi from UK
#1
Hi  Everyone .

Just a small intro . New to drones/quadcopters , but not to R/C . 59 . retired due to illness . Looking to get advise , friendly banter  and hope to contribute to the forum.. Here are my components so far ..

S600 frame
APEMAN TRAWO Action Camera 4K 20MP Wifi Camera IPS HD Screen Underwater 40M with EIS 170 °Wide-angle/2 1350mAh

Flysky FS-i6X 10CH 2.4GHz AFHDS RC Transmitter with FS-iA10B Receiver

I am building it just for photography/video just for my own use . Would like long flight time  30 mins ( max)  . or 20 mins with cheaper lipos but more off

I am not a lottery winner . lol . So please don't suggest the most expensive gear ( I know you get what you pay for )  Otherwise I could have saved and bought a £3k quad/drone .

Just looking for suggestions on motors , esc's  and the rest of the gear ( 3 axis gimbal sorted )  . I would like RTH  GPS etc   I am thinking 980/920kv motors ( I know weight depends on thrust etc) I am thinking 3-4kgs overall .

Please comment and suggest recommendations ( where to purchase as well ) hopefully within UK

Thank you all in advance

Hello and welcome to IntoFPV, Chris! I am in the US, so not able to offer too much in terms of what you have locally available...but we have more than a few members that are in Britain and I am sure they will chime in soon enough.

I mostly fly FPV freestyle craft and have watched one of the favorite softwares, BetaFlight, mature in to offering a lot of the features you are inquiring about. For that, it actually appears you would be better served working with another offering, INAV as it is designed around more autonomous craft controls with GPS Navigation being a cornerstone.

My craft are all 300mm and smaller frame, but we have a few members that have experience with the 450+ millimeter aircraft and the nuances associated with building and flying them. You might want to also keep abreast of the new laws and regulations being implemented right now to determine how to stay legal. Lots of weight restrictions are the legislation dejour as we go through yet another round of mindless fear mongering by people in power who are clueless.

Sort of a long winded welcome. You will find a great group of people here and collectively you will find the solutions to the inevitable hiccups. Smile

Thank you for the warm welcome .. I am looking into the smaller craft either RTF and the like . Just cancelled an order from a certain site ( Fimi X8 SE) over concerns of reviews left by customers and awaiting a refund . My location ( small town) and no one else around me "fly's" so a "racer" is not really my style , but plenty of the folding drones that have caught my eye . I have miles and miles of open farmland and old WW II airfields to fly over and take pics /vids etc . ( Not for commercial purposes ) just for my own use .. 1/2 mile away and it's the North sea .. then Belgium .. rofl . So basically I can have "fun" and not worry about injuring anyone

Welcome. I don't fly AP rig other than my Mavic. But kaitylynn gave out some good advice. But from some of my readings, to get 30mins on a quadcopter your size and weigh, you are probably looking at slower motors. Like the 400-500kv range. And probably 15,000 mah 5-6S lipo. There is a tool (website) called ecalc that simulate different configuration to give you estimated flight time and a whole lot of other information.

Hi there,

I've seen some people play aroung with homemade 18650 cells and build some long range battery packs that offer some nice weight and good capacity. Maybe that's the way to go.
I've you think about lowering the overall weight and size of your planned quadcopter maybe there's someone around who can help you.

Either way, I thin you should open a topic on this on the Long Range area so we don't spam much around here Smile
