Help with FPV feed please
#16
Yea I was wondering why i was getting better reception with a little 25mW VTX on my KK gt90. Makes sense I guess it can be up to 30dB loss with the wrong polarization. The new antenna come in tomorrow so hopefully will fix the issue. Thanks again for all the help guys. Will post new DVD footage with new antenna for anyone who is curious

The VTX on the 90 GT really impressed me. It was much better than I expected by quite a large margin.

Linear polarisation is great for wide open spaces but you'll quickly see the weaknesses when there are metal fences, buildings and trees around.

Without question, the best FPV antennas at the moment are based on the Pagoda design that was so generously donated to the community by Maarten Baert. One of those on your quad plus one on your goggles with a helical antenna to match and you'll get range that will challenge the distance your radio will cover.

Yea I need to invest in a helical. From what I've seen on RCModelReviews' channel the patch antenna really doesn't get you much. I'm hoping this will be my last little issue so I can finally just enjoy flying and not concentrate and all the little problems haha. Having a blast so far it's a great hobby.

It depends on the patch.

Some patch antennas are not circularly polarised. I use an Immersion RC Sprionet patch (RHCP) and turning my head so that the patch is pointed towards the quad when at distance causes the diversity receiver to switch to the patch and does give improved range.

Glad to hear that you found Bruce's channel. The man's a legend and knows what he's talking about as well.

Yea that's how I have survived this long was all the info on YouTube. Without Bruce, Joshua Barnwell, UAVfutures, and Project Blue Falcon I wouldn't even be in the air right now lol. Such a shame what happen to JC though. Sad to see him go I always liked his vids.

Tragic indeed and also why medics refer to people who ride motorbikes without helmets as "organ donors".

Update: new antenna on seems to work a lot better. Still get fuzzy when going behind the trees but I'm assuming that's normal. Running at 200mW might try 600 eventually just to see. Biggest change is I'm not getting like that screen tearing effect I was getting before. Connection seems a lot more stable. Will do more testing tomorrow since I have the day off work.

Might actually be able to start PID tuning!
