I hope I’m posting in the right area. Here’s the issue. They have noticed the return home arrow doesn’t always point towards home. It’s sometimes pointing let’s say 10-15 degrees off and sometimes it is pointing directly at the takeoff spot. This can cause confusion when flying in new spots heading back as they can fly right past themselves and not notice. How does the return home arrow work? They are assuming it’s gps? They have the larger M9N GPS unit and it locks onto at least 12 satellites almost immediately. So satellites aren’t a problem here and it’s extremely accurate down to a couple feet. Does the home arrow activate when quad is armed? Does altitude affect the arrow? Does the quad need to sit in take off location for a length of time before arming even with a lot of satellites? Disclaimer, a unknown person asked me to put this up for a forum discussion about their quad, dang might have been that person the airport is always warning us about. They exist!
Help with “ home arrow” |
08-Aug-2021, 02:31 PM The home position is set wen you arm the quad with a GPS lock. The arrow is supposed to point towards the home position within a certain refresh rate because the flight control software has to establish your direction based GPS info it is receiving regarding the on the path travelled. If your quad is running Betaflight then there is no point even thinking much about it or discussing it because its no hidden secret that the GPS navigation capabilities of Betaflight are fairly sub par. I have had the arrow confuse me so many times especially when flying in a new spot. I just make a habit of keeping track of the landmarks around me. Man thanks for that, thought I was going crazy! Makes sense now. The coordinates in the hud are spot on but the arrow….that’s a bummer it doesn’t work better, it would be helpful if it did. Leads to the next question. Does gps rescue work as well as the arrow? I’m still hesitant to enable that feature, even though the gps seems very accurate. Sorry, after reading all the negative things going on by the FAA, I couldn’t resist the practice run of how will have to word things in the not so distant future….. 09-Aug-2021, 06:56 AM I love GPS rescue. It may not be the best thing out there but the quad does come back and even lands/splats ok. It has saved my quad on 2 occassions. I would have lost it if not for GPS rescue. For me all I need GPS rescue to do is bring the quad within the range of my video/rc signal and I can take it over from there. 50% of something is better than a 100% of nothing The Coordinates, Distance from home and Speed on the OSD are valuable to me and are fairly accurate. 09-Aug-2021, 09:14 AM Did any of you guys find that changing the osd font type affects the home arrow’s accuracy? I know it sounds strange but for me one font type was just all over the place. Can’t remember the font but I normally use clarity given I’m an old bugger. 09-Aug-2021, 12:59 PM Thats a new one to me. I haven’t tested all the fonts. I will test this when the weather is warmer. I haven’t flown in more that a couple of months now. 10-Aug-2021, 04:16 AM Very interesting about the font. Can not hurt to switch them and see, I’m not partial to any of the font except I don’t like the big blocky letter one. |
