Help requested (Blackbox logs included)
#1
Hello! I joined the ranks of 250 FPV pilots late last summer and have been having an absolute blast. I'm having some trouble with the quad now, though; I seem to have developed an oscillation. Since I'm still fairly new to all this, I don't know where to look to figure out exactly what's happening and has hoping someone could help me out.

A little history; I've had a micro for some time so attitude flight wasn't new to me when I got the 250. I made the switch to Rate mode a month or two in and can comfortably fly that full time now. My piloting is improving dramatically but not without my share of crashes. I kind of expect that my issue is hardware, but it's not obvious to me what parts are still good and what parts need replaced.

I have a CC3D and almost went mad trying to get flight data recorded and then pulled off to analyze with OpenPilot. I recently gave up and switched to Cleanflight. I'll have to turn the rates way up to race again; I am still nearly at stock settings on CF now.

I took it out for a test flight the other day just to put some inputs into it and gather the data. I'm pleased that collecting the data and then getting it into Blackbox was really easy. Now that I have it, I've come full circle to my original problem: what's going on with my 250 and how do I fix it? (Unsurprisingly, changing firmware didn't make it go away.)

It's definitely an oscillation that affects pitch and roll; I can't say I noticed it on yaw. It's worse when I put on 5045s, but still visible when I have 5030s on. The test flight is on 5045. This is a 3S setup. My two port-side motors have a little vertical play in the shaft; not sure if that means anything? I read that Cobra motors can come that way from the factory, but mine aren't Cobras. They don't seem to be working extra hard to hover in the logs. You can see the oscillation easily in that test log; it's attached. I pitched, rolled, yawed, and punched it a couple times to get different kinds of data.

I'm a quick study, but still feel very much a newbie to the hobby. I don't know what I'm looking for to be able to identify if I have a bad motor, ESC, bearing, props, or something else. Any help that can be provided would be really excellent. Feel free to ask questions. Most of all, thanks so much for your time.

just had a quick look at your Blackbox log:

Roll: P looks pretty normal, maybe just a tack too much, reduce it about 5 to 10% maybe... D is a bit too much causing lots of micro vibration, reduce it by 30%
Pitch: P actually looks very clean, so consider increase it by 10%... and again, too much D and it's causing vibrations, reduce it by 20%
Yaw: leave it for now

Set some TPA... you have very bad vibrations at high throttle... Break point at 1500, TPA at 0.5 see how that goes.

Thank you! I'll definitely give these a try as soon as I'm able. So you don't see any hardware problems?

I can agree with Oscar, I would say that roll and pitch D is both high, and Roll P is a bit. Yaw P looks like could come up.

Please attach basic quad config information and a CLI dump next time you post things like this, it helps to figure out more stuff.

(If I were you, I'd flash latest Betaflight)

That makes sense. I've already said it's 3S, 5045s, and CC3D. I can also tell you that it's a QAV250 frame, Lumenier 12A ESCs and 1806 motors. The battery is 35C/70C Burst. Receiver is a Spektrum AR610. I have video but I haven't reconnected it since flashing. What other information is helpful?

I've been trying to learn about betaflight and I've heard of a few others. Can anyone recommend a good overview of the available controller software that's reasonably current?

I'm switching the Betaflight as soon as I learn to fly properly in Acro mode. The wiki explains how to set it up, arming has to be done via a switch and motor stop needs to be disabled.

I've also found this firmware called 'Raceflight' but I think it is for newer F4 based boards.

only OpenPilot, Cleanflight and Betaflight at the moment for CC3D...
it's just more popular with CF and BF at the moment and more up to date.

Unless you want to complete ditch your FC and ESC, Kiss setup is also very popular at the moment, using their own firmware.

Ran a test flight with the settings you suggested. It's so much better!

The file size of the log is too large for this board, but I think I'm starting to understand how to read them.

Thank you all greatly, especially Oscar. You've made my day.

That's good to hear Smile
for any big files, it's a good idea to use dropbox or google drive Smile
