Hello. My name is Drone0fPrey, and Im a droneoholic.

Finally sarting to plan out my first "real" quad! Until now Ive been bored trying to get more performance from my x5c and H8 mini.

Heres my brainstorm  Thinking
Frame- NOX5R or maybe QAV-R for availability of custom parts
FC/PDB- either DemonRC Soul F4 and Core PDB or a more budget aproach with an XracerF3 amd Matek HUBOSD PDB
ESCs- Racerstar 30a
Motors- Emaxx rs2205s...... Is there anything else lol
Props- some tough 5040x3 before the 5051s  Big Grin

Gonna use FrSky sbus on taranis. Not sure on rx yet (edit- pretty solid on x4r-sb)
Fpv system will be fairly budget oriented (suggestions appreciated) for cam and vtx with audio (im a racer @ heart and motor sound is key for many things while racing)
Also up for some suggestions on goggles. I have glasses and im leaning towards the newer Quanum/fatshark screen style goggles.
Haven't dome much research on fpv antennas yet either other than watch a video from RCModelReviews. Love that guy! Lol

So thats what I have in mind so far. Lemme know whatya think! Thumbs Up

Welcome DroneOfPrey, I am sure you will have more than a few suggestions from others with more experience than me, I only have an H8 mini, which has been downed for a month, awaiting spare props... And I have an E010 too, only toy grade TX's too so far...

Personally I think for a headset, that my ideal starter would be the Eachine VR-D2 or the EV800 or similar, they both have 800x480 pixels and come with a battery included, the EV800 has an adjustable screen (moves further/closer to your face) so might be better for glasses. They do both though have a removable screen which has a tripod mount so even if you can't focus so close you will still be able to use them outside of the headset. The VR-D2 has a built in DVR if you wanted to record flights but there have been some poor reviews about the delay that the record function puts on the video stream, so as a racer this will probably be unacceptable?

I have yet to venture into the realms of brushless, so just my 2 cents from the research I have done...

Welcome all the same and keep us posted as to your progress!

The hubosd is a bit hit and miss in my experience. I have two of them, one of each layout. the first one (36x42) board has been working fine with littlebee 20A ESCs and 4x470uf capacitors, but the other board (36x36) has not worked well. I have tried it with racerstar 20A escs, and even though I used 4x470uf capacitors, I still experienced short blackouts during fast maneuvers. I then tried it with Kiss ESCs without caps, and it was unflyable. The screen went black as soon as you touched the throttle. I added 4 caps, and still some blackouts, I added one more and the last thing that happened was that the picture suddenly went black for several seconds. I disarmed and the picture came back after some additional seconds. Unfortunately, I destroyed the HD camera when the quad fell to the ground. After this experience, I will not use that PDB/OSD board anymore.

Ty Tom bd bad. Thats actually the set of goggles i was talking about, couldn't remember the name, and I had not heard about the latency issue while using dvr. Not a deal breaker as im more excited for diversity ant and nice screen.
Side note, i love my h8 mini and actually finally managed to ground mine just last night! One of the 6mm's finally said he couldnt handle the multiflips n barrelrolls lol. Luckily i have some spare 7mm lying around and have been waiting for this to happen!
Ill try to post some pics later
What mods have you done to your h8 mini?

The mods on my H8 are minimal - exposing the antenna (TX and quad) and trimming the prop guards. I have an ST-link thing on order from BG, so I can flash accro firmware to the H8 (Silverxxx from RC groups created the firmware) and I have the 1.2g 1000TVL camera coming too so hopfully it will be an accro FPV rig soon, spare props on the same order..!

I also have a RealAcc F3 BetaFlight FC and a F3 EVO CleanFlight FC for tinywhoop (both brushed brushed) So I will be writing reviews of my 1st experience with Clean and Beta flight...

I have some 8.5mm motors and a HK wisp frame, I installed the H8 board on the frame with the larger motors, but it is almost un-flyable without some PID tuning, the props on the larger motors are quite heavy so I think inertia keeps them spinning faster for longer which causes the FC serious stability problems... good for a laugh tho -

Very nice!
I just ordered the Efficiency 80 frame with 7mm motor mounts from Picnic Quads. He has several nicely designed products for micro brushed builds.
I tried to finagle some 7mm into the stock H8mini frame but wasn't having much luck as the plastic is too malleable to use a drill or files.
Will post a review of the frame when its all put together. Can't wait!

I'm going for the EV800 - purely as it's on special with banggood at the moment - and at roughly half the price of the VR-D2, fits a little more neatly into my budget than anything else.

Good luck with the build - you're in good company here, these folks know what they're talking about Smile

Thanks for the suggestion! I really like how it separates and can be mounted to a tripod!
