Hello, I am Mark

Heart
Hello everyone,

My name is Mark, I come from Scotland but currently live in Cologne, Germany.

I am a software developer by profession and I've been enthusiastically building electronics for quite a few years.

I am about to build my first couple of quads, an X210 frame and a tiny whoop like micro.

This is the place to be, not only is it a good quad forum it's a good forum in general.

I am working on my first build too and hope to see you post your own progress on a build thread!

Hello!

Nice to have a professional coder here, i might need your help someday since hydra and boris don't do what i want... Wink Big Grin

Yeah, I hope to be able to contribute some coding to the hobby. However, in general, I am a bit more motivated by making utilities and applications than writing firmware. Big Grin

Hello and welcome from another code monkey!

I cut my teeth on firmware and assembler and have written quite a lot of really low level stuff in C over the decades, so I should be a prime candidate for doing some flight controller coding.

The problem is, programming started out as a hobby for me, but it became my full time job. When I get home after a day's work, the last thing I want to do is sit down and do more programming! Big Grin

Welcome Neighbour !

Martin here from Troisdorf (South-South-East) of cologne. Hope you enjoy Kölsch as much as anybody else in the Rheinland. I built my first quad at the end of last month Big Grin

Good forum, good people and a lot of help

Btw. I am a skilled electriconics technician with some expirience in C coding on Arduino hardware. Sounds like a good collaboration base ^^

Nice to meet you Martin.  High Five

I did wonder whether there were other aspiring pilots nearby. I am in Ehrenfeld. I have always been more of a whisky guy than a beer guy but I decided to quit drinking about a year ago Big Grin

My electronics experience has mostly been building analogue audio stuff like guitar effects, and more recently, 3D printers. I have a pretty wide range of programming experience though, and I am always interested in solving new problems.

Well that's a really amazing coincidence. I recently started building a VOX AC30 inspired Guitar Tube Amp for my Brother Big Grin

Oh yeah i went out to a lot of partys in Ehrenfeld ^^

If you wanna meet up after you built your quads or if you need help building them, let me know

Looks cool. I built a few stompbox 'translations' of tube amps to use JFETS (with varying results). I started research into building a soldano SLO style tube preamp but then got distracted by the world of programming DSP instead. I would offer help but I think that you are much more qualified Tongue I have quite a collection of guitars and my fingers have 20 years of practice so maybe that is more useful to you, I think I read (my German is basic) that your brother lives far away...

I am totally up for meeting up once I have my first quad together and I get a wee bit of flight time under my belt. Do you know other people who fly nearby?

Thanks for the offer of help. I feel like working things out and tinkering is half the fun. It seems to me that quads are relatively simple to build from an electronics point of view. Might be a bit different if we were desiging/etching our own PCBs and populating them.

Although, the idea of making a custom PDB including all the signal routing could really clean up a build. But I am not sure how durable a home-made PCB would be and having a one off board fabricated is a bit of a waste. For now, my 'custom parts' will all be 3d printed Smile

Sounds awesome man. Well technically I am qualified but of course it is absolutely hard to learn tube technology and I am fiddling my way through. The 20 years of practice are actually really useful since I am not playing guitar at all and my brother as you read lives in england. So to test it out if it works properly you would be a really great help.

I am in a german whatsapp group of "team pornfly" xD I don't really like the name but it's a neat group of dudes who fly around Bonn. I can ask them if they know a team that's close to your area if that distance is too much.

It definetly is half the fun! From electronics point of view quads are really easy to build. It's all just UART connections, a bit of sensor inputs to already labelled points (Current, VBAT etc.) and that's it. The only "challenging" thing is to reduce noise in your circuits. But that's mostly fixed by twisting the wires (even though it's not a symmetrical signal), taking care where you ground your video feeds and in the worst case adding a LC filter into the Video Voltage supply.

I designed several PCBs myself for smart home purposes and know some german PCB Prototyping companies. I thought about designing my own PDB or even FC in the future since the PDB is really basic stuff and the FC is always the same Controller with some additional compenents and some custom programming.

I think a PDB might actually be a neat idea to etch by yourself. But you would need to do some finishing on it, because bare copper is absolutely disgusting to solder if you want to use SMT components. Silver or at least Zink coating would be necessary.

Btw. I am fluent in english ^^
