Hello from Nanaimo Canada
#1
I have always been interested in travel and photography. It wasn't till I got my first quad with a camera (syma x11c) did I see the potential for some great pictures and video. Some time back quads were expensive and the technology was not there yet. Initially my goal was to work my way up to a phantom. But being an amateur radio operator I always enjoyed building things. As I looked through much of the information on quads it peaked my interest to build a quad for photography. I know I may have a lot to learn. I have just ordered a Frsky QX7 to begin my path down this road. It may be difficult due to the idiotic regs from transport canada. We should just adopt US 107 since we're neighbors. Good trainging materials and easy to follow. Just have to do the metric conversions.

Now wait for my questions to come.

Have a great day all!

Hi Doug!

Those new Canadian rules are harsh, to say the least. Sad You'll be exceeding that 250g weight barrier for sure, especially if you want to shoot video as well.

Welcome to the forum, there's plenty of good advice here and good people too.

Interior of the island is where the real beauty is. Up around gold river beautiful with streams and waterfalls. Also I own some acreage outside Lake Havasu  Arizona. Hope to head down there this fall for a couple months.
There is currently a petition to change the regs.
Petition is at https://www.change.org/p/marc-garneau-im...-in-canada.

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum,
as you are Canadian 'Sorry' Tongue

if you are intrested in quads/multirotors as a photography/video platform and you look for package... look at Mavic... foldable, not that big and quite easy to use (with good camera).

if you will have any questions don't hesitate to ask Smile
All the best

Welcome Doug! We have the same "idiotic" regs here in the US. I finally (after holding out for 1.5 years and building nothing but <250g quads) bit the bullet and registered. I'm not interested in commercial applications, so it's a bit easier for me, but I feel your pain...

Welcome Doug!
"Regs" can be a pain...
I registered last year just to get it out of the way. Oh well.

Welcome Doug,

It's great to see someone interested in filming/photography platform that is interested in building. It'll be great to see some of the stuff that you put together. Regulations are what happen when people react to their own ignorance of how to mitigate risk in more responsible ways. After all the government can always do things better than people Wink
