Hello FPV'ers.
I'm Dan, from MN, and I'm currently wading through what feels like terrabytes of data as I progress from knowing almost nothing about drones or RC toys whatsoever, to hopefully enjoying the 250 ZMR/Cloneout FPV racer that I'm currently building.
Here's where I'm at:
A little over a year ago, I bought (2) 250 mm 'carbon fiber' frames online. I intended to build a fpv racer right away, but funds and time kept it shelved for 15 months or so. I should mention that when I bought these frames, I also bought a pdb that was designed for the frame, sold by user Overcraft on RCgroups, who I think is also a part of team-legit. This is the pdb: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre...50-Mystery
When I bought the frames and pdb's, there was a great build thread on RCGroups, WITH PHOTOS, that showed step by step how to build the complete drone. My plan at that time was to simply follow exactly what they did in that thread to build my drone. Sadly, the pics from that thread are now long gone, so now I'm faced with the burden of researching every component, and learning as I go, instead of simply copying the build recipe from before.
I've also somewhat complicated my build, compared to following the aforementioned build thread, by opting to use a KISS FC and am also considering 4s batteries instead of 3s, which may require additional complexity to get proper voltage for the FPV cam and VTX.
Here's what I have bought so far:
(2) 250mm carbon fiber ZMR clone frames
(2) custom PDB's designed for this frame
Kiss FC
(4) Kiss ESC, 24A Race version
(4) Emax RS2205S 2300KV Cooling Series Brushless Motors
Misc. stuff, like a nylon standoff kit with m3 screws, a few XT60 connectors, soldering supplies and equipment (good stuff), and a Quanum Genesis FPV goggle/headset with antenna diversity, (the one that's co-branded with fatshark).
I'll be building this drone with my kids, ages 10 and 12.
As a practice/learninig platform, we've got a Hubsan X-4, which takes onboard video, but operates LOS only, no FPV, and most recently (yesterday), I bought my son an Inductrix FPV quad and the $40 version of the Quanum Cyclops for FPV viewing.
My plan is to have all 3 of us practice on the small indoor drones, and then apply that experience to the 250 we're building. I am planning to use both headsets at the same time, for 'passenger flights', though I don't yet know if I need a special cable to do so.
Anyway, those are the pertinent details of who I am, and where I am in the process. I'm really looking forward to interacting with people who are more informed than I about this hobby.
Cheers, Vespadaddy
