Edit Reason: Fixed some odd formatting... :) ) Hello all! I'm from Australia -- my AR Drone with the trusty mirumod hooked me in 2012, still flies alright too! fast forward 2015 I stumbled across "FPV racing" and Oscar's blog was the very first place I learnt so much about the technical side of things. These days I fly my ZMR x210 frames I love flying to unwind! When the goggles are off I'm usually enjoying the spare time writing apps (mainly Android) for the FPV community. Looking forward to participating in the forums! Cheers, Christian • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Hey Christian! Welcome to the favorite site of many of it's regulars I found Oscar's blog before I found the forum too. It's good to have a new member with the experience. I look forward to seeing you around and I hope you enjoy the community as much as we all do. Got any pictures of your primary quads? or even crazy builds for that matter... we love pictures! They're pretty easy to add as well carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 18 Threads: 3 Likes Received: 27 in 11 posts Likes Given: 7 Joined: Sep 2017 Reputation: 2 Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 Welcome Christian, that's a nice little fleet you bring to the party, and some experience to back it up, I look forward to learning from you. I am just about to get into flying brushless models with the 1s Bat 100 on it's way. Are you more into racing or acro, or just flying for the sake of freedom? I'm keen to explore the brushless micros too, I have a few friends who've been building them lately, it's making me itch to build one for the backyard Looking forward to hearing what you think of the Bat-100. I'm mainly into acro, though I don't mind the odd track at some of the fun race meets too. How about yourself, acro or more racing? Being in small-town South Africa there isn't much of a mini-quad community to race with. I like hitting gaps, which at my skill level is probably not the best idea(!) and the brushed micro's I have been flying really don't have the punch required to recover from the fast descent that usually follow attempting acro moves. I stay on a farm with lots of trees so it's difficult to get the altitude to comfortably learn acrobatics. I also have a Powerup FPV (I have a few actually but that's another story) which is a module with an FC, 2 8520 brushed motors and camera, that attaches to a paper plane folded from an A3 sheet, I have designed a few different airframes cut from 3mm foamboard which makes it slower and easier to control. It's WiFi FPV though so lag can be a real problem, not as much of a problem as the app displaying the FPV feed in the wrong place on the screen of my phone, but the Dev's are working to fix that. I hope that when the FPV is working that the slower airframes will help minimize the feeling of lag... I have a football pitch just down the road which is where I mainly fly the planes, I usually have my wife with me so she flies the plane and I try to fly 'chase' with my tiny7 whoop... I should probably use the opportunity to try some acro tricks but I've usually burnt all of my batteries chasing the plane around. The tiny7 is grounded at the mo, (failing to make gaps!) and we have just hit the windy season here in South Africa so right now the planes are a no go too. Here is my preview article of the bat 100 and the review will follow as soon as I have the quad in hand... Initially I got into quadcopters for racing. Like I thought the rotor riot guys were OK but DRL is what I wanted to emulate. I spent a bit of time with some grass roots auto racing and loved it and I wanted to do the same in the air behind the goggles... and then... I learned to do barrel rolls and flips... it changed all my priorities lol... After that I had to have HD cameras and I was starting to want my quad to rotate faster rather than to accelerate faster. I guess what I didn't expect is that I'd still get a rush from flying acrobatics the way I would by racing competitively. That's not to say that I wont still try racing. In fact I love practicing racing on Liftoff... I just have been distracted from learning it because I am having too much fun thrashing about in the air. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 The 3D ballet that is freestyle is my favourite as well. Yeah spring just started here, the windy season has started too, never that fun when your lipos last half a normal flight time. @Carl Yeah racing definitely has a thrill factor, and the speed of some of the locals here is mind boggling to watch in the goggles. However freestyle is everything I like about this hobby, nothing beats it -- I also love the fact it gets you outside and exploring new locations/spots that I'd personally probably wouldn't @unseen Good taste! |
