Hello from Colorado
#1
So my son won a U818A at school, tried it...hated it...gave it to me.  I got it in the air and tried the FPV with the phone app.  I crashed and broke a prop, but was intrigued.  I ordered replacement parts online...tore it apart and put it back together.  Got it in the air and flew around for about (not kidding) 45 seconds before the battery died.  Recharged both batteries so I could get some more time in.  It worked...I got my total flight time with both batteries up to a whopping....2 minutes?  Sad

I put the U818A on the shelf and went to best buy and bought a Parrot Mambo. Got it home and got it in the air...and was hooked.  BUT, this particular parrot would stop responding to commands if it got more than about 30 ft away from me. I'm a little stubborn...and an engineer...so I returned the mambo and hit the webz to learn about this whole FPV racing thing.

With knowledge from oscarliang.com and flitetest.com and literally hundreds of youtube videos.  Last night I got my first 220 in the air. Built from scratch (ok from a kit...but you know what I mean  Big Grin ), having not held a soldering iron in over 20 years.  She aint pretty; the solders are messy and the wires aren't tucked nicely or heat shrunk...but she flies.  My gods does she fly!

Just doing LoS at this point (as I'm still having issues with the camera - EV800 - TS5828 VTX and near unviewable connection, so tonight I'll be removing the FPV part to test separately to ensure I grok it)

Already thinking about upgrades and future proofing and feel like this is the place to come for help and cheering on Wink

Cheers all and happy flying!

Rapidly growing fleet...Right? I was just looking at Whoops so I can fly inside my house!

Thanks for the welcome all! Tonight, if I don't figure out my vtx/fpv issue, I'll post in the noob corner.

But for now I really should get back to work...instead of reading forum posts!

Welcome Mobius74, this is a great forum with a church full of addicts always willing to help your addiction grow!

Re. your video problem, do you have clean video before you take off, which once you start using throttle gets interference? If so you might consider adding a 1000uf 35v capacitor to your PDB/4-in-1 ESC (where the battery leads connect), if you're using individual ESC's you can add 330uf 35v caps to each of the ESC's (on the power +&- not the signal wires). The rated voltage of these caps is suited to a 4S (14.8v) LiPo.
