Hello from a newbie to FPV !!!
#1
Hello,
My name is Danny, I'm from CT (USA), I started flying RC helis when I was stationed in Germany .........a long time ago........
I had to take a break from flying for more than several years .....started a family, loved to water ski....... getting my career of the ground.......blah,blah,blah.........just not enough time to do it all !!!!

About a year ago, I started messing around with an inexpensive quad my kids got me for fathers day, then one day I caught a glimpse on ESPN of the DRL...........that was it Im hooked.....................

I just finished building my 1st quad: ( I must preface this by saying watching the Rotor Riot team has been my biggest inspiration, and is where I have gained what little knowledge I now have)

My machine is an Alien 5" - built to the same specs that Chad & Chad built on their you tube channel

As of tonight, I think I have finally successfully installed/downloaded the following:

KISS GUI 1.14

KISS FC firmware 1.1RC6

KISS ESCA 24 _108f

The only change I have made is instead of running "one-shot 42", I have D-shot 150 loaded (no reason for picking that one, just seemed to be a good place to start)

I was able to flash the FC to 1.1RC6 using the DFuse program (is that what it is called) Im an electrician/electronics tech for a large fire/life safety company, so while i am very comfortable with the physical wiring aspect, I still struggle a bit with software !

That being said, I do have several questions, first and foremost, if there is anyone in the CT area, please feel free to reach out, I only know one person who is flying FPV in my area, there has to be more !!!!!!

I dont think I will fly "level" mode, I am used to flying RC Helis 3D........but I would like to know how to set up "level" mode, if say my son would like to try and hover my quad.........I cant seem to figure that one out...........

I have started up the quad (NO PROPS !) on my bench, and it seems to respond as I would expect, motors spooling up and down in response to stick movements..........., If anyone has a "pre flight" check list, I would be very happy to hear it, never to old or to experienced to learn new things........

I have also registered with the FAA and reactivated my AMA membership...........

Again Hello, and thank you for letting me ramble on !!!!!

Welcome to the forum Danny! (I'm only familiar with settings for Clean/BetaFlight, but I'm sure someone will chime in with Kiss settings.)

Welcome!
In KISS FC, i believe each AUX channel are designed to do different things, like arming, is AUX1, for self-level mode, you should select it in AUX3 drop down. Then in your TX, you can assign a switch to your Aux3 (channel7).

I don't really have a preflight checklist lol, like what you did, check if the quad is responding to the sticks. Always take off in a open/safe place for the first time. I plug in the battery loosely in case the quad might go nuts it might self-unplug, or I can easily and quickly unplug it if it flips upside down.

Thank you all for the great welcome !!

I appreciate all the  advice and tips,

I will start a new thread in the General discussion forum, later on today, I am a very safety conscious pilot (years ago lost control of one of my 60 size helis, and plowed it into a friends pick up truck, poor judgement on our part for parking our vehicles so close, shame on me for not paying attention, someone could have been seriously hurt or killed, since that day I pay VERY special attention to my aircraft and surroundings....................

That being said, I came home a little early and did a "test flight" of sorts, I will explain in greater detail and again, welcome all feedback, positive or negative........Smile

Welcome Danny,

remember here there are only 2 types of people, that have holes in their houses after 100% safe test, and ones that haven't flown yet Wink
