Oops!!

That link takes you to my latest posting on LinkedIn so you must scroll down to see the tethered hover video.

I need to get a direct link here but I have forgotten how I posted the last video. Any help appreciated.   Huh

I may be able to get a friend to post it to YouTube for me.

I have just had a friend advise me that he cannot get access to this page unless he joins LinkedIn and opens an account.

I am going to try to get it posted on You Tube.

In the meantime here is a screen grab from the video showing the landing legs retracted. It shows Quadraptor in hover with the landing legs retracted.

Howdy All,

I had an inspiration this morning, forced myself into my workshop and luckily for me my inspiration worked.

I finally got the broken boom back into place so poor old Quadraptor is now on the mend.

All that is required now is some reinforcing and re-assembly and she will be back in the air soon.

What a relief all of this is.   Big Grin

Cheers for now,

KK

Howdy All,

Work on the repairs to the airframe are now complete.

Now for the difficult part. I need to find the exact cause of the malfunction that put poor old QR into the roof of the carport.

That may not be so easy.

KK

Good luck KK.

It's never going to be easy determining the cause of a malfunction with something that large. With a smaller quad you would simply just disarm in the event of an issue and let it drop to the ground with the hope of very little or no damage occurring to the quad, but that's probably unlikely with such a large beast. I have no experience of a model that big so I'm afraid I don't really have any advice, but please let us know how you get on.

Thanks Snow.

I was almost ready to go to untethered flight after that last successful flight but that is not an option now.

Until I can get a series of successful tethered flights the tether remains.

I just have to be extremely careful that I do not get a repeat of the throttle going to full power. This is what drove QR into the roof of the carport.

One of the things that is mystifying me is that I tried to get into the ESC data logs but for some reason that I do not understand I cannot get access to the data. It appears to have been erased or else my KingKong linker is not working. I have never had a problem with the KIngKong ESC data logs before.

Why is everything so difficult when it does not need to be?    Angry

OK Lads,

Try this address for the Quadraptor video;

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x80fx8q

You will require the password which is; Stingray.

Let us hope this one works.

Cheers,

KK

PS The outer wing panels have been removed for safety sake. Note the retractable landing legs.

OK Lads and Ladettes,

I have had the video link verified by two friends.

It all works provided you put in the password which is Stingray.

I hope you finally get access to this long awaited video.

It is posted on Dailymotion  a Youtube look alike.

What a performance getting it up and working successfully.

I am definitely not a computer geek that is for sure.   Rolleyes

Howdy All,

I have just had a look at the Quadraptor video on DailyMotion and I noticed it has only had 49 looks.

Considering The thousands of looks on this forum page since I posted that video I can only surmise that the password is turning people off watching the video.

I must apologise for that password but sadly i did not have any choice, there was no option for posting without a password.

I will keep looking for a way to remove the password but until then sadly password it is.   Cry

Cheers,

KK

I did watch the video myself. It looked pretty scary if I'm honest. All that weight and power in what looks to be a pretty heavy craft. I though the weighted bucket of sand idea to keep the tether line taught was a genius idea. I'd previously assumed that you'd been using a ground based tether line.

What you need to remember about the number of topic "views" on this forum is that it isn't necessarily from real users. The likes of Google, Bing, Yahoo, and a whole bunch of other search engines have spiders that crawl websites all over the internet (including this forum) hundreds of times a days mining content for their search engine databases, and when a search engine spider lands on the web page of a topic in this forum, it then iterates through all other links on the page, and some of those links are to other pages of the same topic. So if a spider was to land on any page in this topic, it would also "look" at all the other pages in the topic (which there are currently 87 of in total for this particular topic), and each one of those page looks from the search engine would register a topic view. So each time a search engine lands on single page in this topic, it will likely register at least 87 views. And that is just from one search engine spider. If 5 search engine spiders land on this topic in a single day then it could register another 435 views (87 pages x 5 search engine spiders).

Thanks Snow, that was a nice compliment re the bucket. I spent ages arriving at that concept and near pounded poor old Quadraptor into pulp before coming up with that idea.

I tried all manner of tethers but none proved satisfactory bar the bucket.

I just wish I had have got a video of that really successful flight. Sadly it was not to be.

Sadly also, I cannot get myself back on track. I crashed Old Wooden It a day or so ago and damaged a pylon which is adding to my misery. I will be OK in a day or so, so not to worry.

Thanks also for the explanation about the number of looks. That explains some of the questions I have been wondering about.

Cheers,

Howdy All,
I am just re-reading my posts starting from Page 1. I love reading these old posts as it refreshes my mind on stuff that I have forgetten not the least being the enormous amount of help I got from everybody back then.

Re the props I finally settled for 14 x 4.7SF which handles the 6.4kg Quadraptor easily on about 50% throttle.

Thanks once again for all the help.

Cheers,

Howdy All,

I aaammmm bbbbbbbaaaacccckkkkk!!

I have or am possibly still going through a horrible period which so far has lasted nearly 5 months.

Ever since I crashed poor old Quadraptor nothing has gone right.

I finally forced myself back into harness and repaired Quadraptor when shortly after that I crashed Old Wooden It for unknown reasons.

That resulted in one destroyed motor pylon which has since been replaced.

So I decided to check all of the electronics in WI and then a new round of problems appeared.

This was the result of not being able to connect to the data logs in my King Kong ESC.

I was originally using a slightly older Dell laptop which despite all my best efforts and a little help from the KK factory just simply would not connect to the ESC.

After weeks of frustration I went out and purchased a new ACER laptop. Still no joy. In despair I dragged out a very old ACER laptop which has various keys on the keypad which do not work.

Getting this old thing to connect to the ESC was a real work of art. I should tell you that in all the years I have used King Kong ESC with data logs I have never had any problems connecting to the ESC using the Hefei Linker cable.

In order to type any command into the search boxes on the Old Acer I had to use one of my good Laptops to type out the command, copy and paste that command to a Thumbdrive, transfer the Thumbdrive to the old Acer, copy and paste that command into the search box on the old Acer and bingo......everything worked including the linking to the ESC.   Whooopppeee!!!. Big Grin

The thing that puzzlles me here is that all three Laptops run on Windows 10, so why does one work and the new Dell and Acer do not work. This just does not make sense to me, but still I do admit that I am definitely not a Computer Geek!!!   Huh

So now to the reason for this post.

I have attached a screen shot of the parameters page which shows the various parameters set in the ESC. Now my question is what should I set the GOVENER box at? There are three options available..."Fixed wing" "Govener" and "External govener".

I assume that the Flight controller acts as a govener so I have selected "Govener" Can anyone advise if this is correct please? Or perhaps should I select "EXternal govener"?   Huh

Please.....Any help will result in eternal gratitude!   Big Grin

Have I ever told you that these Quad things drive me absolutely cuckoo!     Angry

Cheers,

KK

I have no experience of the KingKong ESCs you are using but looing at documentation on what the Fly Mode is, I would say that "Governor" is likely the correct selection. See the description on the second page of the instruction manual HERE.

Fly Modes:-
  • Option 1: Fix Endpoint (default) -> Recommended for fixed wing aircraft and EDF
  • Option 2: External Governor -> ESC turn over the throttle signal to external FBL controllers such as VBar, Skookum,MB,BeastX etc
  • Option 3: Governor -> ESC Internal Governor
As for your question about why your other Windows 10 laptops aren't working, then it is likely due to a missing device driver. It looks like the Hifei USB Linker uses a Silicon Labs CP210x chipset. Try downloading and installing the latest version of the CP210x Universal Windows Driver from the Downloads section of the following web page...
