Hi Carl,

I have been meaning to contact you for some time to ask you what you mean when you say "even if I cringe a little at the word "Naze".

Have you had a bad experience with the Naze firmware?

I am just about to install a Hero fitted with Naze firmware and I must say I really do not need or want any more problems.

So I would like to talk to you about this issue if possible please.

Regards,

Bob

I can't say for sure but I think this might just be a misunderstanding.
Naze32 is an old F1 flight controller, so it's outdated, and considering betaflight will soon stop support for F1 boards, it is soon to be completely obsolete...

Edit to add : Sorry to hear of your woe's KK, I hope that there is a silver lining waiting for you...

Thanks Tom, I am feeling pretty dismal at the moment.

I just cannot believe that this quad section has worked out to be so difficult.

I cannot help feeling that in trying to flash my Naza with 4.04 firmware something has gone badly wrong resulting in me not being able to communicate with the Assisstant.

I have tried everything I know including installing and uninstalling the programs and drivers over and over, reading countless web pages and still no joy. As seen previously the drivers appear to be installed correctly so what else can I do?

I have finally come to the conclusion I have to bin the Naza and move on which is a pity because I got the heavy lift capability with the Naza and on my last trip to the faram there were times when old Wooden It flew so smoothly it was a joy to fly. But I just cannot trust an FC that goes whacko evry now and then.

The new Hero I purchased recently is a Paris Sirius Air 3 Hero SPi-F3 loaded with Naze firmware.

Do you know anything about that one?

I really do not want another disappointment at this stage. The alternative is that I could buy a new Naza M Lite and give that a go.

It really is a messy situation.

Hi Reno,

I have tried everything I know and  that has been suggested.

I have downloaded and reinstalled many times. Used three different USB cables and anything else I can think of.

The only thing I have not tried is another computer and that is not easy.

I have been looking hard at the Eagletree Vector and I would like to ask can it be run without the GPS module?

I do not need the GPS or OSD for my project.

Howdy Boys,

Sorry about the recent inactivity however I am still battling with my Naza M as well as being away for the whole of last week.

Reno, I tried right clicking and reloading as you suggested but my computer told me the correct driver is already installed.

I have contacted one of the local Eagletree agents and I am ringing him on Wednesday to quiz him about the Vectors.

I am sitting here sounded by the Hero components but I just cannot bring myself to rip the DJI out and re-instal the hero.

I am so annoyed about that Naza. It was doing everything I wanted, heavy lifting, stable flight and then that stupid stuff started where I could not connect with the Assisstant and the yaw problem started.

UUUUGGGHHHH!!   Angry

Busy tomorrow because work stops for the day down here. The Melbourne Cup. The horse race that stops the Nation!

So Wednesday it is. Back to work which includes finding out about the Vector and re-installing the Hero for the moment.

So........ wish...me....luck !!   Cry

Howdy Lads,

Sorry about the long absence but I have been busy as well as stymied by the failure of the Naza M to connect with the Assisstant.

Try as I might I have not been able to connect the Naza so I have finally given up and I am about to re-install the Hero FC loaded with Naze firmware.

I know I have said this before but this time I mean it. No more Mr Nice Guy. It is off with its head, no backing down.

So while the re-installation is taking place who is for another KK olden day adventure?

This one is quite quaint in the detail.

More later.

Oops, late news bulletin.

It is due to rain later this week down on the farm and my son needs to get the Garlic out of the ground soonest.

So I am off to the farm tomorrow to help out without the Quad.

OK FF, this one is based on my adventures on the glass roof of the Sydney Opera House.

I will start to put the story together over the next few days. It will be another serial.

One final word on the Naza.

I hung on and hung on with the Naza trying all sorts of things hoping against hope that something would give and I could reconnect with the Assisstant but no such luck.

The Naza gave me everything I asked for but after I tried to install the new firmware 4.04 things became unreliable. I could not connect with the Assisstant from that point on and the yaw control in flight tended at times to flip the quad on its side.

So I am putting the Naza aside with the view of buying another one in the future if the Hero or Eagletree Vector options do not work out.

So stay tuned for the continuing adventures of a more youthful KK. Big Grin

So here we go.

For those not familiar with the Sydney Opera House the attached photo shows the pertinent area under discussion in this very olden day adventure of the Intrepid Keyboard Kid.

Set in the early 1970s the mission was to design and produce a robotic window cleaner to clean the glass roof of the front balconies. There are two balconies one on the left front and the other on the right front.

We had to design the cleaner for the slanting roof, the vertical sections were to be cleaned by more traditional methods. The slanting roof was canted at 15 degrees off horizontal and ended in a dead drop to the promenade below. No safety fence here.

The view from the very edge of that roof when standing  there and looking over was both awesome and frightening but more of that later. All of this was long before Occupational Health and Safety became such a big issue.

Thus the stage is set for one of the most awesome and frightening jobs i have ever been involved with.

So...........................stay tuned!! Tongue

OK here we go.

The attached page is from an Australian Electronics magazine titled Electronics Today International better known as ETI and this article was published in the May 1974 issue.

The story runs a predictable course covering all of the usual technical stuff in fairly good detail. It is a two page article and in this posting I am only giving you page 1.

What is missing are the juicy bits which I am going to make you lot wait for  just to tease you.

I am planning to stretch this out over several days to give me time for the Hero re-installation.

The photo on this page is of a very young Bob Young controlling the robot from under the glass roof.

Note the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background.

Once again note the date. The late 1960's and the early 1970's was one of the most memorable period in my career. The R/C Volkswagon, flying in the World R/C Aerobatic Championships, The Opera House job, Military targets and RPVs all crowded into this very busy period. Sometimes I sit here wondering how I fitted everything in. I do know I was working very long hours at that time.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the story and I hope to see you all sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for the next episode next time I log on.   Tongue

Sleep well.

Part 2 as promised.

Juicy bits to follow tomorrow..

The juicy bits are of course the things that do not go to plan and provide all sorts of unplanned excitement.

So......stay tuned   Rolleyes
