I saw that exact same comment somewhere else in the past two weeks. I can't remember where or by who but I think it might have been on reddit. Sounds like a troll with nothing better to do Big Grin

For a forum that only talks about fpv drones, there're 3000 people visit our forum everyday from all around the world, I'd say we are doing really well Smile

wth Huh

What i like about this forum is the quality vs quantity ratio... insanely high imo Thumbs Up  perfect for the occasional lurker such as myself...

But I guess some people probably should just live on reddit ...

Yes, this forum seems to have blown up in the past 12-18 month with visitors and posts. I remember when I used to go to bed then wake up in the morning to maybe 4 or 5 new posts. Now there is usually a whole page or more of new posts to read through.

And some people (mainly the younger generation) say that traditional forums are old fashioned and pointless with the advent of social media platforms like Facebook and reddit. Well this forum clearly isn't Big Grin

As someone who joined recently, let me give my reasons for joining and participating in the forums.

I don't have a personal Facebook account. I do have one that I use for work, but no personal account. As a result, participating in Facebook groups was more work than I wanted.

Reddit has multiple subgroups, however, like Facebook, I don't have an account and couldn't be bothered.

RC Group forums were quite nice, however, it was too much as a beginner. Having years of discussion in a single thread was also takes getting used to. Sure, it might make sense to cleaner organization, but I find it easier to scan through subject lines. With search may be this isn't a big deal. For me, looking at hundreds of pages in a thread was too much. May be, I need to get used to it. As someone new, it felt like there was a lot of traditions and I was going to break rules that I wasn't even aware of.

IntoFpv felt more focused. Easier to ask and get back answers. It felt more welcoming. I have loved participating. I have found it helpful and feel I should help where I can to say thank you to the community.

Discord and similar communities are nice too, but I prefer something that is not asynchronous. Something that doesn't need to be online at the same time.

PS: I don't like forums, communities etc where a single identity/profile is used for multiple groups etc like Facebook or Reddit. I feel like I am being profiled and boxed into a category to be sold to the highest data bidder. Then again, I am in Discord and Slack Smile

Forums attract a certain type.  I used to run the first and most popular California surfing forum.  I kid you not if you searched that in google, my website would come up ... a ghetto hacked phpBB based forum.  Then came Facebook.  I had to cave in and start a FB group.  That community split into 2 factions one favoring FB and other the website proper.  It got to be so ugly that the website guys wanted to close down the FB group entirely.  In the end, both the FB group and website died a slow and painful death.  That sucked really bad.  Really really bad.  And for that I will always hate Mark Zuckerberg that wierd looking alien A-hole m*thereffer nerd jackassforbrainsinahoodie.   Big Grin

Facebook is completely useless for any type of historic information. Everything is in a single timeline thread and is only useful for "in the moment" discussion, so it just ends up being disposable information. Once that stuff has disappeared off the bottom of the page no-one will ever see or read it ever again. When did you last see any Facebook posts appear in a Google search? Never. And when did you ever search inside a FB group for something? Never. Most of the groups are private anyway so none of the information is surfaced outside of Facebook to any of the search engines. It's also full of trolls.

The only reason I (reluctantly) set up a FB account is so I can stay informed about what is going on because sadly that is the only place you can get some of the news. I very rarely post anything on there, and I never post anything in my own profile timeline.

Traditional forums with useful categories and topics that can be searched through and which appear in search engine results FTW Cool

This ^^^

Exactly the same reasons why I deleted my facebook account less than a year after I signed up, only to re-up years later because the onroad R/C racing club I'm part of only posts racing dates and locations on facebook...bleh.

A forum, this one in particular, is more like a library and Facebook is more like a bar in the way info is shared.

They both have their pluses and minuses, but I prefer a forum.

I think more to the point ... FB = instant gratification. Hence its mass popularity.

I'd personally go the forum route...
Also a forum is only as good as the people that use it, that makes this an +A forum!

P.S. I'm in the "what's a forum" generation. Tongue
