Very helpful wish I would have found this sooner then I would have been totally sure that I'm gonna leave it the way it was I mean I don't have any issues other than the prop wash and it feels robotic which is ok but seems kinda floaty it's a heavy quad think I weighed it at somewhere between 23 to 24 ounces (fishscale) lol but I have a question when u turned d min back on u set the gain to 15 I think and the advance to 0 is that what they should be ? I'm using stock pids with the rpm filtering

Also noticed your I term relax type was set to gyro mine is set to set point which should it be I hope theses aren't ridiculous questions

I don't have a flying preference like racing or freestyle or long range I'm doing whatever trying to get better at flying my next question is about the presets at the end of your post jb also had a video about those which one do u think I could benefit the most from ? If they are beneficial

Regarding I term relax, the gyro selection was based on UAV Tech's suggestion. I'm sure if you don't have issues using setpoint, you are fine.

I think the last question was regarding feed forward presets? I would just leave it at averaged_3 (freestyle) which in my own experience is a nice mean algorithm to get a smooth feed forward.

Is that the default preset ? Because I tried the cinematic averaged 4 just one pack tho I could feel the difference it had

I looked at my bbl log also and from what I've learned it looks pretty dang good plus I have an awesome way of soft mounting my motors I think I'm gonna fly like it is it's getting pretty dinged up with these experiments but with the rpm filtering which I just now am hearing about long story short I bricked my first FC trying to flash so I stayed away from flashing anything till snowleapordfpv talked me thru it because I realized the mamba and infinity stacks I've used all run bf 3.5.7 or close anyway I watch jbs vids on rpm filtering and it is a completely different Bird now I can fly in my front yard now so that's a big diff from the field I needed before

This is great, thanks for your contribution, the.ronin! I've never tried tuning and I'm excited to start tonight. One question, when going through the tuning processes, should your quad be stripped of action cameras? Let me ask that question another way. When tuning a quad, should the quad be loaded with a gopro if the pilot normally files with a gopro or should the quad be "naked" and the tuning will translate to better performance with or without carrying an action camera?

Thanks!

No worries man and I'm glad you're stoked on it!!

I'm also glad you asked that question. You most definitely want your quad to be as close to *EXACTLY* how you would normally fly it. I even highly recommend using slightly beat up props - definitely not brand new ones. This way you are tuning to the most common possible scenario.

Put another way, when you put all that stuff back onto your quad after tuning, your motors may run hot from overwhelmed filters that were not tuned to handle all that other stuff you put back on causing all this new noise that wasn't there during tuning. Your tune will be out of whack.

With that said, I use flabby vertically oriented antennas on my long range builds. I might run a flight with and without those flabby antennas just to make sure the noise I am seeing in gyro_scaled is because of those flabby antennas.

A question, does it matter if i filter on the gyro side or D side if the total delay is the same? The filter on the gyro side transfers to the D so it filters both in the same it seems?
I have quite of bit of noise so either i put a static on gyro or a second static on the D.
Total delay mesured in PIDtoolbox is the same with either options.

@ronin - well done on your guide it's super helpful! I've actually been working on a update to my Blackbox guide and only found you have done one already! Smile u truly raised the bar high with this one!

The d term can introduce noise into the gyro .also it can amplify noise from the gyro. so I would recommend a nice balance in filtering. Between both a good clean build will give a nice clean gyro signal so you could in some cases turn the low pass gyro filter completely off but not on the d term the d term must have some kind of filter .keep in mind tho I'm still using bf 4.2 I haven't tried 4.3 yet I guess I'm so used to 4.2 lol so the tuning steps are a little different with 4.3
