Grey screen with OSD overlay on new Matek FC
#1
Hello everyone,

I just bought a FC (Matek F405-WTE), VTX and camera from Aliexpress and tried to make them work. But unfortunately when i connected everything together I only had a grey screen (no snow) with the OSD overlay on my goggles. Thus I deduced that the VTX is working fine and that the onboard OSD should also be working fine.

Then in order to debug the problem I tried to connect directly the camera output to the VTX input, powered by the FC (9V and 5V) and got a good image on my goggles. Thus the camera is definitely working fine and the power pads on my FC too.

If anyone's got an idea why it's not working.. I'm running out of options other than buying a new FC (mine is brand new) or external OSD Sad

I have INAV 5.0 installed and the OSD box is checked. (I've also tried Ardupilot but same result)

Also my FC supports two video inputs but I have tried both and there is no change.

This is my first FPV build so I might just be making a stupid mistake.. Please help!

Victor

If the video feed works with the camera directly connected to the VTX but not with the camera running through the FC to the VTX then you likely have a faulty OSD chip on the FC or a short circuit to one of the OSD chip inputs. Use a magnifying glass to check the FC for stray solder balls, tiny whiskers of wire, or other debris on the board that might be causing a short circuit somewhere. Pay particular attention to the legs of the 28-pin OSD chip.

I've had a good look but couldn't find anything wrong.. Here are pictures if someone can find something wrong.
Some pins of the OSD chip aren't soldered but I think it's correct because it matches the schematics of the FC.
