One of those builds is going to be exclusively designed to be a LOS flyer. As I start to plan the build, something came to mind... most FPV frames are somewhat wasteful for a LOS setup. I don't need space to mount a camera, I don't need somewhere to put the VTX or antenna... I just need a frame that can handle motors, AIO FC, ESCs, and Receiver. Do any of you who fly LOS have any LOS specific builds, and if so do you have preference for a mini-quad frame that caters to less clutter? I'm planning on running 4s and 5" props. I'll probably mostly stick with parts I've used in my other builds just so that I can have multi-quad backups but the FC I cant decide which way to go. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 The Armattan F1-5 is right up your street! Or, take yourself over to one of the best threads ever on RCGroups and look at building yourself an ultra light 5" LOS frame from carbon fibre tubes: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre...-FPV-Quads Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 That looks like a good one for sure unseen. I was thinking about giving the Chameleon a try for the FPV build so maybe I get them both from Armattan carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 I would hold on for the Rooster as it's just a few days before it is released. If you still want the Chameleon, still, wait for the Rooster as they will drop the price on the Chameleon when the Rooster comes out. In fact now that I think about it it was the rooster that got me thinking about going for an overslung Armattan frame. I had filed the memory away as "maybe try an armattan" though and forgot that I wanted their latest and greatest. I think you're right, I am not trying to purchase today... it'll be at least a couple more weeks before I start placing orders for everything. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 I know there will be a Rooster added to my collection as soon as they are released but I also need to get the other builds and repairs that I have sitting on my bench finished first. I'm having a little trouble getting up the enthusiasm for building at the moment as the near constant darkness means that even if I do get some builds finished, it'll either be freezing cold or pitch black outside. Even worse, I know it will be April before the days are meaningfully longer or warmer. Roll on the summer!! • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 Building your own frame is also something you should look at, particularly for a LOS quad. The frames in the picture below are for 4", 5" and 6" props and weigh just 14.6g, 23.8g and 27.8g respectively. I briefly read through the post you linked to before but I didn't read all of it. I'll go back and have a thorough look before making a final decision. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 (23-Dec-2017, 10:49 PM)Carl.Vegas Wrote: I'll consider it on the LOS build... I have most of the parts I need for a variation on the theme. Instead of making something for five or six inch props, I have some rather more substantial tubes and plate to build a pure X tube copter with 2610 920kv motors and 1045 propellers on 4S. It'll be like a huge, line of sight aerial lawn mower! • Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 Well I guess you need something capable of carrying a floodlight, so you can fly at this time of year!? Now I can't help but imagine this big bulky quad with a giant floodlight strapped to it wondering around in the sky in the dark shining on the ground almost like a police helicopter! carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 |
