Goggles new version..??
#1
Hello,

I have Echine EV100 and I have decided to upgrade to fatshark. I am considering HDO2 but it's an old model (about 2 years old). Is it worth buying those or should I wait for the new version. Any ideas when the new version is coming out?

Any other suggestions for top-of-the-line goggles would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Thomas.

I have a pair of HDO2's and yes I am starting to feel they are old in terms of technology.

The the DVR quality is low (works well as a lost model finder).

The menu is ancient.

In terms of quality of display, field of view and build quality they are awesome.

I would say if a Skyzone 04X has been built properly (most goggles are hand made) then its almost on par or even better than HDO2's.

If you have the money then Orqa's are the best in terms of technology with futures updates coming. Some say a V2 is coming soon.

Thank you for your advice! To be honest I don't mind the issues you mentioned regarding the DVR and the menu. Is there another issue that's more serious?

As I understand you don't really know whether there is a new model coming out for HDO.

What do you think about HD (DJI)?

Many thanks,
Thomas.

I love my HDO2's. They have served me well for the last 1.5 years without any issues except for the faceplate/Velcro glue that does not stick well. But I find it hard to recommend the HDO2's in 2021.

Fatshark does not seem to be any updates for a HDO updated goggle. It seems their focus is on SharkByte system and thus they are launching a box goggle similar to the Scout with SharkByte built in.

ATM, For HD goggles there is no doubt DJI has the best video quality but their ecosystem and future support for the FPV system is not very encouraging. If you were to get a DJI goggle then get a V1 because the V2 has several issues as reported and there is not much benefit to getting the V2 based on specs for the standalone fpv system. And you can probably find a used pair of V1's for a good price.

Orqa has announced that they are working on a HD system but there are no actual reports of even a conceptual design or a working product.

Stop thinking about new model. There is always possibility of a new model coming out. It is same for everything like mobile phone, graphic card etc. If you buy the latest goggle now, it is likely to have better one in the future. If you like it, just buy it!!!!. Don't overthink about it. If you ask my recommendation, I suggest you to check Skyzone 04X. They are awesome!!!.

There is also a V2 of the SKY04X goggles that have just been released. Just be aware that there seem to have been quite a few complaints about the quality control of the SKY04X V1 goggles recently. The earlier batches seem to be OK but goggles from later batches appear to be a bit hit and miss. You can read about some of the frustrations on the Skyzone FPV Facebook page at the link below...

If Skyzone can get their QC under control with the V2 goggles then the SKY04X are probably the best bang-for-buck analogue goggles out there. Just be aware that aftermarket VRX modules wont fit them without a lot of modification work so you generally have to make do with using the supplied SteadyView / RapidMix module.

The orqa have a lot bling with the menu and dvr and possible gopro interaction, but they lack the focus adjustment. For me their worst decision. If you dont have a 100% anymore, you need the lenses which are another 60-100 bucks and then they are just overpriced. I sold my orqas in favor of the hdo2 because of that... better have good sight then a good dvr or a bling bling interface
I have not yet looked through the 04x but from everything they seem to be currently the logical decision for a top notch analog goggle.

I don't think anyone who use Skyzone needs any aftermarket VRX module to use. SteadyView/RapidMix is really good and performs well.

Orqa don't worth its price to be honest. They offer some innovations like FPV.Connect etc, but they are not something you can't live without it. It is just marketing. The goggle itself have some drawbacks. In my opinion, for the top tier goggles, Skyzone 04X is the best bang for the bucks.

If anyone does buy a Skyzone 04X goggle, can you please buy it from your local vendor and ensure you have a clear understanding on repair and replacement and warranty.

I like my HDO2’s and if I had to buy them again I’d do it no problem. This summer I paired it with a TBS unifypro32 and the video makes me pretty darn happy. Yes the menu sucks even after a year and a half it still takes me a couple times to get what I want done, it’s like using an early computer. The face pleather foam piece I think a large amount of people would agree, is junk and have replaced it with some other face foam. The fan is cheap and noisy. All that aside dang they are so lightweight on your face, the sit up on your forehead comfortably when not in use, you sure as hell can see well with them and most importantly, you can fly well with them.

+1

And never buy these kind of expensive items from B**g***d because their warranty is worth diddly squat, so if anything goes wrong you will be left high and dry.
