Glue the edges of carbon fibre frames
#1
Do you guys glue the edges of your mini quad carbon fiber frames?
Does it strengthen the frame in a crash?

When I start hitting trees and Concrete, i notice the carbon fibre sheets to start delaminate and I wonder if glueing the edge would help with that as well.

I use CA on my carbon edges. Arms and anything that may take a hit. But for those who want to paint the edges with paint pens, it gets tricky for the paint to stick.

i think it would benefit more for lower quality carbon fibre frame like the ZMR250 with delamination, but that's not really an issue with quality CF.

If the carbon is impregnated and vacuumed properly, this shouldn't help with delamination. Epoxy paint will do this in one shot.

it might help a little, but delamination isn't going to be solved with crazy glue. I've laid up my fair share of CF. If it's done right, you will saturate the carbon fiber with epoxy then compress it for maximum density. You could actually try a product called GitRot, which is a very thin epoxy resin made to impregnate rotten wood on your edges. That would be thin enough to get into any micropores leftover from the cutting process. Glue is nothing but a bumper, it does not cure delamination.

Of course if you fly hard, your frame will never last long enough for you to reap the benefit of any of this.

I used to paint my frames as well, but I realize i was wasting a lot of time painting my quad and NOT flying! And a nicked up paint job looks bad... just leave them alone and go fly! Big Grin

I used to glue the carbon on my RC car chassis, haven't done it yet with a quad.

I bookmarked this video a while back.  This guy "finish-files" the edges of his frames to prevent delamination, etc.  I thought it was a good idea, and will do it on my next build.  The finishing starts at about 40 secs in the video.
