Glad I Didn't Give Up
#1
i started trying to fly FPV just before New Years. my first flight was in a church parking lot, where as soon as i took off i hit the power lines, almost taking out the power to the church, thank God it wasn't on a sunday. (no pun intended) my quad ending up in a storm run off next to the church which was about 15 feet deep, with concrete ground and walls. so once i found a way to get to my quad, it had a broken arm, ejected battery, and a never to be seen again vtx antenna. so after putting a new quad together i was so scared of putting the goggles back on that i just hovered around LOS for a while. and every time i would put the goggles back on something bad would happen. i would end up driving 20 minutes to the field, to spend 5 minutes setting up, then 10 seconds of flight time before i crash, break something and then have to pack my stuff up, and spend 20 minutes driving back home upset and frustrated. after about 4 months of that i was just about ready to give it up. so about 2 months ago i met up with Trollhammered from this forum who was willing to fly with me even though i didn't really know what i was doing. i finally started seeing improvements. i still have a long way to go before i try to enter a race, or anything like that. but i know one things for sure all those pilots i watch with the amazing youtube video all started from square one just like me. they just didn't give up. this hobby can be frustrating, intimidating, and extremely confusing. but once you get it you'll forget about all that.

this is a video from today. i know it's not much. but let me know what you think.

Nothing wrong with that Jimmy, and good on you for sticking at at it.

Yes, we have all been there, and this is what I really like about this forum, Nobody judges another on the way they fly, the opposite infact. Loads of encouragement given out.

I will fly with anyone of any skill level, be them better than me (which isnt' hard) or a newbie. I just love flying, and If I can share with others, all the better.

The Ego pilots, well they can go.......

Good flying with a stylish landing Jimmy. Good to see I'm not the only one that doesn't care about the landings as long as it's soft grass hehe.

Get a cheapo backup quad or build one from spares - as a matter of fact, my backup machine flies better than my main, probably mostly because I don't care and don't fiddle with it at all Big Grin
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Lol Jimmy, I thought you were describing me until I watched the vid, sadly I haven't progressed that far and keep being told off for not going for it. This doesn't stop me from having the biggest grin on my face when me n my buddy fly together, crashes or not

Many thanks to Trollhammered Smile What makes it a special experience is the learning curve you overcome and finally start to enjoy what you do, as well as the friends you make along the way Smile

I think the hardest part is just getting over that first hump, once you get over it and get it out of your system you learn to just let loose.

so very true Oscar. and what makes this forum different and in my opinion better than the other ones is the willingness of all the members. and how even though someone might be wrong, it's not followed by a rude or belittling comment, but instead it's politely corrected. I know as the forum grows there's going to be members that wanna put other members down, but hopefully if they wont effect the forum as a whole. (warning feature is a nice touch) Big Grin

Nice flying. I started just after thanksgiving and I am hooked. Getting over the fear of crashing really made my flying better.
