Geprc - New Elrs FC for TinyGo
#1
Lost in Translation!
This is a conversation I had with Geprc customer service

Me
Hi Bro. I've done more damage to my TinyGo and the Flight controller no longer works.
I want to have a TinyGo with ERLS Rx that I can connect to different transmitters.
Can I buy a Flight controller and Erls Rx package I can put into my existing TinyGo?

GEPRC
Of course you can purchase ELRS 2.4G receiver and install ELRS receiver instead of the original receiver
https://geprc.com/product/geprc-taker-f4...t-12a-aio/
The new FC we used , Target is F411 AIO and use 4.3 CLI and firmware
https://geprc.com/downloads/tinygo/

Me
I see there's an ELRS option for that board. Does that mean it has an integral receiver? If so what antenna would you recommend to match the Diamond antenna on my Elrs transmitter?

GEPRC
You need install the ELRS receiver yourself

antenna , If you use the ELRS receiver , The receiver 2.4 comes with Antenna

Me
Is the advantage of ordering the Elrs option that I won't need a pull-up resistor for the rx?

GEPRC
No need, just the receiver

(I inserted a picture of the board here which is shown below and I arrowed something that looks like an antenna connection)

Me
Please could you tell me what this connector is for?
Sorry to be a nuisance but I'm trying to know what I am buying ?

GEPRC
this connector is for reboot FC and enter into DFU Model

I tried to copy my picture here without success but you can see the connector I'm referring to in Geprc's link. It isn't a USB connector!

Does anyone know anything about this FC with its Elrs option?

Rofl I once spent a couple months emailing back and forth with HGLRC tech support trying to identify a mosfet. At one point they thought I was asking what a mosfet *was*, not what that specific mosfet was. They kindly gave me an explanation of what a mosfet is. Tongue

I never did manage to identify that mosfet.

The “built-in ELRS” version of that board has a built in spi based ELRS receiver. No need to install an external one, but be aware that with spi based ELRS receivers, in order to change the ELRS version, you have to flash the appropriate Betaflight version because it’s baked into betaflight. If I remember correctly, betaflight 4.3.x is ELRS v2, betaflight 4.4.x is ELRS v3. Also, one of the betaflight versions broke spi support- I don’t remember if it was 4.3.1 or 4.3.2, one of them works and the other doesn’t.

Make sure you select the option I circled in red:

Edit- that connector is going to be for the ELRS antenna, as I don’t see an onboard ceramic tower antenna.
Dangerous operations.

So, I have my new AIO Taker F411 8bit AOI FC board with Erls built in and a TBS T antenna!
I also have a Jumper T-lite Multiplayer, but with a nano Erls backpack.
It always says on the packet not to solder if you need to return the board!
My question is; can I bind the bare board to my radio using Betaflight and the USB connection to see if it works? How will I know it's working?
Instructions regarding this seem pretty sparce from Jumper and Geprc so any pointers would help

You can plug it into usb and check limited functionality- move it around and make sure the gyro is good, make sure that it boots.

I don’t know if the spi receiver will power up when just powering via usb, but if it does, then you can go ahead and manually bind to your transmitter, or set up your bind phrase, and then check the receiver tab to see if you have stick movements.

You won’t be able to check if the esc’s are good until you solder on the pigtail, connect motors, plug in a battery, and try to spin them up.
Dangerous operations.

You can bind, generally, while using USB. At least on the boards I've used you could, which is like every BetaFPV AIO and the handful of Crazybee's i have. Just plug in USB, open betaflight, add your bind phrase, hit save, reboot and check the channels work when you wiggle the sticks.

With regard to onboard serial ELRS, no idea. Only have two FC with it and have used neither of them so far.

I think most, if not all, SPI rxs will power up by USB. And even the few onboard serial ELRS rxs I've seen so far all do the same.

I figured as much, but I only have a handful of spi based boards where I use the spi receiver, so I wasn’t quite sure.

I didn’t want to give bad information and have him send it back because he thought it didn’t work. Smile
Dangerous operations.

I recently ordered the above FC (GEPRC TAKER F411 8Bit 12A AIO with ELRS) to replace the GEP-12A-F4 in my Thinking P16.

I have successfully added Radiomaster RP1 ELRS receivers to three other quads but never could get one to function consistently in my Thinking P16.  When I was at maximum frustration I found and ordered the Taker with built-in ELRS.  Hoping it goes more smoothly...
