First time I've seen one. It looks like it would be decent. Cheaper than a QAV but more than clone. Has some features the QAV doesn't have like an extra set of standoffs where the weight of the battery on impact will snap the top plate. I'm also a big fan of the arching slot on the side plates for adjusting a Runcam Swift. Bet those arms a hard to break so I'd say you may never need to buy replacements. The only thing that pops out at me is the length of the battery strap slot. I always do but I'd definitely use a strip of Velcro on the top plate to keep the battery from sliding back and forth.
The trees are all out to get me

Have to say that thing looks pretty good. Also like the fact the topplate is 2mm thick and no overhang at the rear like the QAV210, really like the LEDS where they are.

I might just get one to try out. the 180mm version.

some more things
weighs 118g including that aluminum thing compared to zmr x210 at 174g
uses eight griped 35mm standoffs but website says you can use only six if you want(could make a weak spot at screw holes but the top plate is 2mm thick)
comes with anti shock foam landing pads
and a non slip battery pad plus a velcro strap
comes with pdb which has built in xt60 connector connector
PDB with BEC (5/12v 5V 12V output, maximum 3A, maximum 500mA)
adjustable angle from 0-55 degree
even has holes for zip tie antenna mount kind of thing (with a grommet ?? at least seems to be)
even comes with zip ties (quality better than qav, seems to me)
programmable tail LEDs
supports board cameras ,hs1177 and swift

man wouldn't it be great if i can get sponsership from geprc

Looks like a nice frame, not just a straight clone of something else.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1

I fly and enjoy RC quadcopters but mostly toy-grade (symas and the like) and also have a dji phantom 3A). Years ago I was building/flying RC sailplanes. I am not up-to-date in the hobby thought.

I was given a GEP-VX5 frame as a present. I left it in the drawer for a few months, now I would like to build it and complete it.

I have no idea what is needed or recommended (RC, motors, transmiter/receiver etc) besides the GEP recommendations. I list them below:

Flight Controller:F3 /Naze32/ CC3D
Motors: 2204/2205/2206/2305
ESC:20A-30A
Propeller:5inch
Battery: 4S 1300mAh

But still, there are some shady areas, which confuse a beginner, as an internet search offers too many options.

GEP were nice to reply on a similar email I send, and the info helped. But still, I need FC,Motors,ESC,Propelers,Battery and a Transmiter, if I am not missing something. Oh yes camera etc. Goal is (don't laugh if I am dreaming, I am a total beginner to this) a stable (not necessarily racing-level) nice FPV quad that is versatile (add GPS, add Altitude Hold? ok I am ignorant but willing to learn), and equipment (especially the transmitter), that will be ok to recycle into future similar projects (when I am not such a beginner any more).

HOW WOULD YOU BUILD THIS, AND WITH WHAT PARTS? Without costing a fortune? That is my question, and any insight will be appreciated. I am sensing I'll get hooked to this, but need some help to start things up.
So I had this frame and it was a great frame for freestyle + it never broke which was great. I reccomend going for a dys f4 which is a flight controller with a built in pdb as well as built in osd. The motors I found good all round are the emax rs 2205 2300kv (you can upgrade this in the future) along with a prop like the dal 5040 v2, dal cyclone 5046, or HQ 5x4.3x3. For esc's, I recommend the spedix 25a or 30a blheli-s esc's. These offer the best value for reliability in my opinion. I would recommend for fpv equipment a TBS unify pro race (cheaper version) as these are simply the best in my opinion with an antenna like the foxeer unbreakable cp antenna. For cameras, get an hs1177 from foxeer. For batteries, get at least 5 4s 1300-1500mah lipo's(70c and up), I have heard China hobby line batteries are very good but I use ocday 1300mah 4s 75c as they are cheap and available in my country. For transmitters, I recommend the frsky taranis q x7 hooked up to a frsky xm+ as a receiver. Though it may seem expensive, for what you are getting it is great value for money and a very reliable control link. Fpv goggles depend very much on how much you are willing to put in. If you want to go all out, buy the fatshark dominator HD v3. If you want a cheaper goggle, maybe consider eachine's newest goggle called the ev100.
You can find basically all of this on banggood but look out for a local fpv shop online.

GEPRC is one of the better Chinese frame company. Their frames are pretty high quality. They are also a little more than other Chinese frames. But about half the cost of the high end frames out there.

Totally agree.

I have the ZX5 and was really impressed at the quality of the frame and the complete package with all needed mounting hardware, battery strap and a good quality PDB.

Thanks for the reply, it REALLY helps to have specific information such as this, since I am gathering as much info as possible here, before getting into this project.
(BTW, before noticing the reply I deleted the original post, as I figured it belonged to a more "beginners" thread. Thanks again!)

Hello i'm flyng this frame since 6 months. It is light but almost crashproof and lately swimming pool safe..
The carbon quality is very good and really stiff, perfectly cut but the edges need to be sanded since are quite sharp. All the parts match perfectly and the drillings too. The included black steel hardware is top quality.
The stock camera mount dont fit my runcam eagle nor the swift without washers on the sides of the cam because the distance between the carbon mounting plates is a couple of mm narrower than camera width. Solved with runcam metal bracket.
I replaced the stock 35mm standoffs with shorter 30 mm without modifications except for the 35mm led taillight that now is fixed with zipties.
Just keep in mind that this is not a true x nor a stretched x frame.it is a "compressed x" frame.
