GEPRC 3inch Sparrow
#1
This is my latest build and my first 3 inch.

Component list

Frame: GEPRC Sparrow 3" - $35
http://geprc.com/product/gep-mx3/

FC: HGLRC Flytower F425 F4 - $53
https://www.banggood.com/20x20mm-XJB-F42...48284.html

ESC: HGLRC 25A 2-4S 4in1.  It is part of the stack.

VTX: Matek VTX with IRCTramp controls - $29
https://www.racedayquads.com/collections...-200-500mw

Camera: Runcam Mini Swift - $35

https://www.racedayquads.com/collections...and-orange

Motors:  GEPRC 1408 4100KV - $15 each
http://geprc.com/products/motors/gep-gr1408/

Props: Racekraft 3076 3" Triblade - $3 set of four
https://www.racedayquads.com/collections...een-purple

Receiver: R-XSR - $19

Pagoda Antenna:  DIY - ~ $2

Lipo: Tattu 650mah 3S.

Thought
Frame: I don't like that the main frame because it comes in two pieces.  You have to criss-cross the two pieces and used screws to fasten them together.  They can still come apart until you put the metal cage and screw it down.  It was a little bit annoying.  I don't see why they could not just make the CF frame with one piece.  I recently checked the website, and the frame is one piece now.

FC:  I should of when with the F428 instead.  More UARTs.  I have to remap two pads with soft serial to get S. Port telemetry and VTX controls through CMS menu to work.

ESC: 25A is overkill.

VTX: Matek VTX had to be updated to work with softserial. Updating was easy but you have to use either FC passthrough or FTDI.  It was difficult for me because everything was wired up already when I realized I needed a firmware update.  If I have to do this again, I would have just bought the HGLRC VTX TX20 version 2 that fits on top of my stack cleanly.  The Matek was a little too big for this build.  I tried Tramp and TBS, they were similar size.

Camera: Solid video feed.  Mounts perfectly.

Motors: The feel nice.  Well built.  I have not tested them on 4S yet.  I realized after I solder everything and switch motor direction in BLHeliSuite that the motors came CW and CCW.  Just my luck, I got every single motor in the incorrect position.

Props: No real thoughts.  Only 3" props I have.  They do look cool.

Receiver: I can't believe how small this thing is.

Pagoda: I made a very short antenna.  Fits the build very well. I did not want to go with the whip, I thought I would get better reception and range with this.

Lipo: Flying 3S is very tamed.  Will upgrade to 4S soon.

Thanks. It flies pretty well. I am starting to really like the small quads.

So light...
I like the small details like shrink wrapping the other wrap. Looks good.
What are you getting out of smaller quads?
I looked at the geprc frames. I might order the hummingbird to torture/challenge myself in the future (2 inch).
What's your opinion on gep frames?

Nice build and thanks for sharing!

It's a heavy quad for 3", but should be rocket fast on 4S.

I get about 3min if pushing it. And 5 mins or more cruising. I was doing some night parking lot flying last night, clipped a tree and bend one of the motor. The frame and everything else is intact.
I have another geprc frame, it is still good after multiple crashes. They are a quality Chinese frame company. Some great clone and some innovative frame. I would buy from them again.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
I should have been more specific but what I meant to ask is why are you enjoying the smaller frames.
It's good to know the flight times too though.
Thanks for the insight into geprc.
Do you know offhand if the hummingbird is a clone?

Hummingbird does not look like a clone. But I can't recall everything out there.

I like the current small frames because they are zippy. They need smaller area to fly. Hitting small holes is fun. All the smaller components are getting just as good as the regular size. Example, small cameras used to be terrible. Now they look great. Motors, ESC, FC etc have all gotten better. These micro are just speed demons.

I am itching to build a brushless Tiny Whoop. Only thing available that I can find is the RakonHeli Whoop.

Man I've been dreaming about this frame for so long. I want to mount the Geprc 20a STABLE stack with some 2800s and 4S on it. I think itd turn out pretty good.
