Seeing all nice simulators coming out I'm considering getting a new PC. Currenly I'm running Freerider simulator on surf pad.It was OK for learning but I would like to take the next step.

What would you buy at the end of 2017 for FPV simulator/ gaming?

I would also like to do some CAD once in a while.

I have an Alienware 17" that I game on...it gets used for other stuff as well. Really depends on your budget.

Yes rather open ended question. Mostly fishing for some inspiration.

I wanted to try my hands at Velocidrone and maybe that GTA mod.

Currently thinking Lenovo Legion Y520 with i7 16GB ram and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti .

Budget is flexible it will just damage my savings. Want to buy quality that will last a few years.

Then look for a laptop with 8 gb of ram in one bay, and buy second one on ebay or whatever you will save few $,
As you are looking chceck graphic cards 1050 is this years model as it has 10 in the front so more or less up to date, if you look for gaming rog check tat second part of the number is as high as posdible ie 70.
Check how often are you going to move it and do you need battery life

Mentioned lenovo is a good candidate

It's definitely cheaper to build your own by selecting parts separately.
But it takes some good knowledge in computer to be able to spot any incompatibility between different components, so if you are not good at computer maybe just buy a pre-built kit.

Desktop also tend to be better value than laptops (processing power to price ratio), if you don't plan to take the computer around a desktop is probably a better option.

Problem with stationary for me is that I live crowded in small appartment.

Hoping to move somewhere more rural in the future where I can go flying in my back yard. Smile

For the record I went with a Lenovo with 8GB and GTX 1060. Thanks for the pointers.

It has served me.

Use it mostly for Velocidrone and Solidworks. Handles both well.

I love my Alienware, but it is not so much a "laptop" as a replacement for our desktop. We have been looking for a smaller computer that can be mobile around our house. We are looking at the Lenovo and also at a few of the less expensive Dell machines. Thank you for the input!
