Furious FPV Goggles Battery - Shows Time Remaining
#1
[Image: A7L9tC4l.jpg]

New FPV Goggles Smart Battery from Furious. Looks really cool and packed with features:
  • It's not LiPo, but Lithium Ion battery that has higher capacity, as well as safer (2x 3400mah 18650 Li Ion)
  • Shows current draw and time remaining - really smart!
  • The housing in the picture is 3D printed, but in the final product it will be injection molded
But some have concerns over these 18650 batteries, as they claimed to have tried them and found they actually have shorter run time than some 1800mah 2S LiPo. Some suspected that's because 18650 could be run at lower voltage than LiPo and the voltage alarm goes off earlier than it needs to. Also the constant high current draw from those diversity modules might cause voltage drops that is enough to trigger the low voltage alarm, because 18650 batteries typically have much lower C rating than LiPo's. But that's just my speculation, this needs to be verified when the product becomes available.

I am excited to see some innovation in our Goggles' batteries, cannot wait to see how this smart battery perform in real tests!

Quoting someone in our FB group regarding 18650's voltage:

You are supposed to run 18650 down to 3.0v per cell if you can put up with the buzzer in the goggles ;-) Then you would would be using the full mah rating. A work around would beusing a buck boost converter in the 18650 pack to keep the voltage up like a normal 2S lipo pack. BUT then you would probably need a buzzer in the pack for when the cells get low! Maybe fatshark could tweak the firmware for the low voltage buzzer if the goggles can run a lower voltage...

I'm just wondering about what looks like a legitimate balance lead... which is fine, I hate reconfiguring my charger to charge my fatshark battery anyway... but will it still power the fan? I am assuming yes. Sometimes things get a little foggy inside and having the option for the fan is a big +

Also, is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling of an old NES controller when looking at the photo?

yes the balance lead is for powering the fan, as well as for charging in balance mode:
T-bone did this mod long before, same concept:

That's pretty cool... It was really problematic that I couldn't find good charging info online... heck at one point following some youtube advice I was charging my battery in nicad mode! A move that later I learned was dangerous... lol...
